Okay so here we go.

I have never been into anime, I never really watched anime, not in a consistent manner anyhow. I know of some anime of course and I've seen episodes shows that are "anime" in a sense, but still usually a bit Americanized. Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Naruto, Attack on Titan. You know the really popular or mainstream series' that were on Toonami or Toon Disney and CN around the early millennium. And it's not that I hate animation no, I still see the more popular Disney films, I mean I'm almost 19 and my YouTube avatar and iPod wallpaper is Steven Universe. I have fond memories and a great respect for animation. American ones. I just never got into anime, I suppose I didn't "get" it or understand it or what have you. But I recently bought a Netflix subscription and as I have a deep respect for art and entertainment in all it's aspects, being an aspiring writer myself and I want to expand my horizons so, go ahead and hit me. What are some good, "generic" or mainstream or widely loved anime, for me, a complete novice, to get into the genre?

Anime, you must watch, if you realy want to expand your horizons (in a not perverted kinda a way as manny in here would do ) Anyway In my opinion:

kingdom ( a must for any total war fan imo)

Darker then black ( first season only, dont bother with the sequels they suck)

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (series) But watch the 90s movie, its a classic. The matrix a decade later riped it off....
Space battleship Yamato 2199 ( in US knowned by Starblazers i belive)
Legend of galatic heroes
Great teacher onizuka
Legend of legendary heroes
Tytania
Gunslinger Girls
Trinity blood
Blood +
kaze no stigma
Atack on Titans

Rosario + vampire ( if you are into Romcons and such, there is tons of that in anime of all sorts )
Daily lives of High school boys ( for laughs as well)
I mean there is a lot more, but those imo are worthy to watch if you are aiming to expand your horizons.

Probably not since it supposely ends next volume, unless Watari tricks us. That means, it probably should end in two OVAs like Oreimo.

Oregairu is not a RomCom anyway, although Hyouka and Kokoro Connect are pretty good, also most animes made by KyoAni (probably exlcude FREE). Hibiki Euphonium is quite possible AOTY this year too (because BEST GIRL of Summer).



By the way this is BEST GIRL this season.

Yo, so I just finished season 2 of Oregairu or whatever it's called and I need someone to tell me everything will be alright and season 3 is on it's way. Also any recommendations for a similar series? I didn't think I'd be the kind of person to like romantic comedy stuff but I think I am anyway. I think I'll try Hyouka or Kokoro Connect next maybe..

S2 caught up completely to the last volume so don't expect a s3 anytime soon. Actually, no, don't expect a s3 at all. Have more realistic expectations for a short OVA series or a movie even. I sincerely doubt Watari can drag out the last remaining arc(s) enough to warrant enough material for a third season.

Anyway I am quite satified how Non Non Biyori presents this season, especially how much screen time Silver Link gives to BEST GIRL.

currently checking out Crunchyroll and stumbled over Rokka, Braves of the Six flowers. Not sure about that pseudo Aztec fantasy land and princess "boobs with rabbit ears for no reason"(Really... why does she have rabbit ears as a head dress because she is a normal human!?) but wow, the art design is pretty gorgeous...
