Maybe? It is the one with the bald guy with the yellow spandex and cape talks about his summer training routine. I think he said 100 crunches and 100 push ups every day. If I ever need motivation I just put on some Dragon Ball Z.

One Punch Man is like a super hero comedy satire, but it has a lot of cool animation and fighting.

    I have.
But anyone who watches Dragon Ball Abridged should have watched Dragon Ball Z or else they won't get the jokes. They should also be required to watch Dragon Ball first.

True. It had been a while and my kids made me watch the originals again first since they thought I would be too rusty.

Hellsing Ultimate Abridged also by team 4 star is better imo.

I wouldn't get it cause I never saw Hellsing.

An underrated parody was None Piece. It had like 5 episodes and almost no one saw it.

Been watching YuGiOh Abridged by Little Kuriboh since I was about 12. I still watch it whenever he updates it once a year, cause why not.

Dragon Ball Abridged has so many inside jokes that I feel most people only watch it because it is popular. How many people even understood what Big Green was a reference to? Was it just a dumb joke? Well it is a reference to the British dub, go look that up because clips from that on their own are probably as funny as the actual Dragon Ball Abridged. While you are at it, also look up the Malaysian dub.

Not going to watch Pokemon Abridged, Inuyasha Abridged, Naruto Abridged (although Little Kuriboh made a parody of it called Naruto Abridged the Abridged series... which is super meta), Fist of the North Star Abridged, etc. I think Abridged series are being phased out for short videos. Back in the day there was another YouTuber called WTS who made these sorts of Dragon Ball video shorts. There is currently another YouTuber called Devil Artemis who makes these sorts of Dragon Ball parody videos, and he has done well for himself.

    WTS Dubs vote King Piccolo

Hum i actually feel you dont need to watch Hellsing or Hellsing ultimate to understand the jokes. Maybe the context, but there isn't much to it really. Hellsing British occult organization that kills vampires. It has a vampire in their payroll, that kills its own kind. His name is Alucard, and he is kinda of anti hero of sorts. Great character really. Bottom line they do a good job at telling the story.

Lots of blood and gore and what not. They even make fun of twilight. ( you dont need to watch twilight to understand they are making fun of it lol).

That said Hellsing and specially hellsing ultimate the actual Anime, is definitely some Anime ( classics at this point) that i would totally recommend.

As for Dragon ball I didn't grew up watching Big Green dub or even any American English dub at all. And i still get the the Abridged very well. I grew up watching The Portuguese dub back in the 90s. Which isn't good at all. It is however a parody of itself rivaling that of Team four star . Even the Malaysian dub doesn't hold a candle.

Behold Captain Ginyu singing the Opera. Really.

    Here Masako talks about it.

Yeah I know he voices the Abridged Goku and Gohan. But he looks so familiar I could have sworn that I have seen him somewhere. Although I never met anyone called Lawrence.

Shame this thread hasn't been posted in such a long while

We don't have a thread about Bleach, do we? I'd gladly like to have a place to discuss about it.

However, after having watched it like 15 years ago in Japanese subbed in Italian, now I've started to see it fully dubbed since someone bought the rights of it and they are now promoting it via Amazon Prime. Honestly, most of the dubbers they picked are terrible, especially the deep voiced characters (such as Zaraki) are terribly rendered in Italian

There really isn't enough to Bleach to discuss in a separate thread.

I don't mind honestly, but why isn't Bleach getting the love it deserves?

Most people don't like it because they think it is dumb and basic. Frankly I think we need more anime about mindless fights with giant swords... and fists... and whatever else. For me Bleach is alright and I definitely enjoyed watching it. Except the Fullbring Arc which was boring, poorly written, and generally a step backwards.

I hated that too; I didn't like the Bounto part as well. Fillers in general weren't that great, anyways.

however as far as I know, they are now making the anime from the last part of the manga, which has been neglected for long.. I haven't read the manga but I did the mistake, long ago, to spoiler myself by searching the net.. anyways, hopefully that will be the appropriate closing to a saga of gigantic swords

Well if they do release that last arc then I will watch it. Though I feel like Bleach was gutted by Shonen Jump and Tite Kubo's editors. Both of which can be, and are, pretty brutal.

I dunno honestly, I'm not a big expert of manga or Japanese authors for what matters, I'm too old to be of that generation. What I know is that here in Italy they use to put Bleach close to One Piece and Naruto, to form a sort of trilogy. I honestly prefer Bleach above the other two, and I will say and heresy now, but I never really liked Naturo, too nerdish for my tastes (although I loved Rock Lee at the beginning, when I got that the anime was more about "magic and tricks" than actual fighting, I just dropped it).

Bleach is made of straight sentiments, there's quite a lot of serious drama, and IMO the soundtrack is just awesome, but that's subjective of course. Some parts of the plot could have been written better (with more calm, so to say.. i.e. I still believe for instance that rushing Ichigo to the Bankai was a bad choice, both because his Bankai is so cheap and crappy compared to others and also because then they had to constantly be pushing him towards the hollow transformation to make him epic).

One Piece... well big fan at the beginning, but then it became repetitive IMO. The problem with those very long manga/anime is that at a certain point you have to have the courage to cut it, even the Divine Comedy has an end. When I heard that Naruto has now a son, I was really meh (pretty much just like the same with Dragon Ball).

That is because from 2000 to 2010 One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach were in the top 3 most popular manga/anime. Bleach really took a hit though. They canceled the series early and the studio and editors kept screwing over the artist/writer Tite Kubo. So Bleach dropped off and it was just One Piece and Naruto. Naruto ended a few years ago. Now it is just One Piece. A bunch of other series keep competing over the 2 and 3 spot for the past decade. None of them really stick and there is no popular long running series anymore. Most of them end after only a few years now.

Thanks to Flinn, I now imagine a middle-aged bearded Italian man crying while watching a badly dubbed anime - only to then turn off the PC/TV; to tend the olive trees in the garden instead while 'la famiglia' watches.

Well, most animes shown on MSM are, you are right, unfortunately just generic shows revolving around fighting. But that's because the Western World hasn't picked up most of the stuff over there, or most of it has outsourced itself to the depths of teh internetz anyway.

There are many great anime for adults, more or less known. With that I don't mean funny porno crap, but dark, atmospheric stuff. So @topic, personally I can recommend:
    - Death Note: Dude finds a note allowing you to kill people by just writing their name in it.
    - Berserk: Set in a European Medieval inspired fantasy world. Lots of blood, gore and betrayal.
    - Hellsing Ultimate: Nazi Vampires!
    - Naoki Urasawa's Monster: Master chirurgeon saves someone from an otherwise fatal bullet wound. Problem: This someone is a notorious psychopathic serial killer. (my current avatar is from there. Mr. Grimmer is a great character)
    - Animatrix: Origin stories of 'Matrix'. Amazing atmosphere.
    - Ergo Proxy: Post apocalyptic future stuff; amazing atmosphere
    - Ghost in the Shell series: Cyberpunk detective story
    - Mardock Scramble: Just some meh revenge story, but the unique art style is marvelous, and the philosophical aspect is great.
    - Afro Samurai: Dito. No philosophy, but instead features Samuel L. Jackson as a voice actor.
    - Elfen Lied: Some mutant girls with super powers used for experimental testing. Quite messed up. Perhaps too messed up.

It's quite unique that they use different artists for each circle of hell. Interesting idea, I'd say.

all correct, except that I would be tending the vineyard, not the olive grove

I've watched Death Note (partly), Berserker, Hellsing (partly), Ghost in the Shell, Afro Samurai (awesome piece this one). I'd add to that list Attack on Titan, Basilisk and few others, but I'm sure that the list can be expanded by many.
