    Default Historical Generals??

Hey there boys and girls. I've frequently visited these forums, but I finally decided to register because interaction is fun (YAY!!!). Anyway, I've yet to get MTW2 because I'm poor , but I've gathered some excellent info from other topics except for one small matter. One of my favorite things about MTW1 was the Historical generals that would pop up from time to time, like Joan of Arc, Frederick Barbarossa and William Wallace. I loved playing as the HRE in the first Medieval, but actually using Barbarossa to spank the Italians and the Pope made it that much sweeter. Has anybody seen anything like this in MTW2?

The only Historic General Ive seen so far is El Cid. Other than that no since the Kings are not numbered as in MTW1. That really bites.

No...the English start with William the Conquerer.

And I do believe that all of his sons that I had were historically accurate, but past their generation they were just random.

Wow, thanks for so many replies. I plan on picking up the game tomorrow, and am now tempted to play as the english first just so I can be William the Conqueror. With my luck, however, he'll probably be burned at the stake by those bloodthirsty inquisitors . I'm glad Spain gets access to El Cid, it should be fun fighting off the Moors with him once I get around to a Spanish campaign.

As for that Harry Potter cardinal, for the love of all things comical, try to get him elected Pope. I can see it now, "Foolish Pagans, turn to Catholicism or feel the wrath of Harry Potter!!!!!".

That makes every history-oriented cell in body ache. Lol, I believe that should be William the Conqueror is the starting English king .

Aside from that, I haven't had the opportunity to pick up the game yet, but I'm under the understanding that at least the initial rulers match up to their historical counterparts and the family trees initially are fairly accurate.

As for the historical generals that simply pop up when you recruit in the year or after the year they become available as in Medieval, I haven't heard much, but I don't think they're in. Its too bad in some ways, but in some other ways I don't mind being freed from knowing that a faction will always get a good general at so and so a date. At least it gives a bit more flexibility, if not historical accuracy.

Oh, and Samos, can we see a screenshot of that Harry Potter cardinal? That sounds hilarious

As far as I've seen, it seems that the beggining rulers of each faction are historical.

Though I don't like the fact that Portugal begins with it's complete territory, with the 1st King as an Heir (yes, because the Pope only recognized our independence in 1143). And he should have a "live longer" trait, as D. Afonso Henriques live until he was 81 !!!!!! years old

Byzantium, in my game anyhow, had Alexios, John (who managed to smash Hungary), Isaac and Andronikos (though this could simply be a generic Greek name). It's 1194 with John as reigning Emperor, Manuel never having showed up. Don't worry, though. El Cid lives! Valencia is free!

I just purged a heretic named Mozes . Oh well, Mozes is a bit late i guess, as the year is 1403.

The starting rulers are historical and many of their children are. They made up some of the children for some factions who did not have an heir. Like Spain (Fictional, should be Castille not Spain), Alfonso is their King (historical) he has a daughter Urraca (historical) but he also has a son, Prince Rodrigo (Fictional). When Alfonso died, Urraca ruled, but I suppose even as screwed up as the inheritance system is in M2TW, females cannot rule so they gave him a fake prince.

Actually, El Cid is just the general of Valencia, which is a rebel province. So you'll probably end up killing him instead of using him.
