Hello everyone,
I appreciate the work you guys are doing. And I know there cant possibly be a release date and I'm sorry to ask this but can you at least predict a time period?

Ohh, a tough question for anyone. Promising too much usually builds up more pressure to deliver at a certain time or deadline. We are essentially in the closed beta process for Rome 2. That is not to say there isn't a lot to be done still, though, because there certainly is. Based on that, a couple of months might be a fair estimate until we'll see an open beta or otherwise early version of the mod released. As for Attila, it's simply more to process. There are more mechanics to rebalance. It's going to take a while here I'm guessing, but as you already know certain parts - like the combat overhaul - are already on good way. We will also be looking at making an enhanced particles mod here too, by the way.

I want to ask one more thing to you guys. I didnt want to open another thread. Is it possible to combine Rome 2's and Attila's animations? If it is are you planning such a thing.

Yes it is similar and some animations may not suit the time period. I dont know if you noticed but in Attila units fight more professionaly. I dont know if CA aimed this (I think it is realistic) or they just changed it because people didnt like it in Rome 2 but it sure is nice.
I'm pretty sure they are the same. From what I have experienced, they just lessen the matched combat more in Attila, and Formation attacks aren't present in the game anymore.
Speaking of formations attacks ( this is now for the modders) . Will you guys import formation attacks for Ancient Empires? Because I've read some post in the Rome 2 forum before, actually he's also a modder, that he removed all formation attacks in his overhaul mod because it was very buggy and makes the combat even more clunky. So is this true? It will still be cool if you can see Roman units actually be disciplined in fighting, and you can actually see the distinction between the civilized and the uncivilized factions in this type of fighting formation.
So what are your thoughts on this?
Edit: I'm starting to think it was you guys that removed the formation attacks in your ROme 2 mod XD XD XD XD (silly me). Oh well, but still my question still stands.
I know they are the same but I'm talking about the realism of animations. You dont expose yourself and jump and hit your enemy like they do in Rome 2. In attila animations are based on 1 hit moves and finishing the job which is what it is actually like in martial arts.
Well, the formation attack mechanic is a bit of a mess. We did exclude it from the Rome 2 combat mod, but there were others who did the same on the other hand. Whether it'll be kept or not here is still up for debate, but there's very little pointing towards it being an useful feature.

We never haven't used formation attack... he's on about the toggleable one with the circle with the x in it as the button to turn off and on I think. All roman and greek units pretty much have it, otherwise there would be no unit cohesion. Yes we use it and no it won't be going away. I tried getting rid of it but it didnt work all that well, I just cant see it not turning every unit into a giant mess.

Not really much of a use to me as well. However, on a visual aspect it is kind of cool to see the difference between disciplined and undisciplined fighters. But still, I go with what functions well for the mod. Although I could still wait for a submod that features it.![]()

I don't mind that at all. Hey, you guys are making the most ambitious, authentic, historic mod for Attila. I wouldn't blame him for that.
Now you've mentioned it, I know remember how buggy the formation attack was back in Rome 2 especially when the AI uses them. It usually leads into stacking over units, because most of the time the AI attacks a single unit with multiple units of theirs which all in all leads to stacking units ( I bring up "units" too much ), and it's very horrible to look atThere is no misunderstanding here. We're all talking about the same mechanic. I did mix things up though, because it was partly removed from the Para Bellum mod (on which this current one is built basically). It wasn't removed entirely on the other hand, as I thought, although a fair amount of mods have gone down that route.
The thing about the mechanic is that it's always on by default, leading to stacking of AI troops - players too will find their troops stacked up if playing aggressively. It would have been a so-so feature without that, because it's still not a mobile formation (the same can be said for all others too), and units rotate in a most peculiar way upon initiating close combat.
Chances are we'll keep - and in the case with Attila re-introduce - the mechanic anyway.. Now this time I think I'm taking back what I said earlier lol.
Since the feature is still up for debating, I would have a suggestion for it if the feature will make it in the mod though. How about if you set formation attacks automatically turned off? Therefore
the AI wouldn't much use the feature regularly? I don't know much of the AI's chances of using abilities such as this, but I think this will lead to a much lesser ugly formed unit stacks, but in the same time we have access for formation attacks just by toggling it on again.
