Default [Request/idea] "organized disengaging formation" for infantry

I always wondered if it would be possible to create a new kind of "formation" where soldiers could gradually step backward without turning their back to the enemy...there is already an animation where soldiers step backward in the game, maybe it's possible to create a new formation using this animation...

Yeah, a tactical withdraw ability or formation would be awesome. Doubt it would be possible though...

I'm sure it could be possible with animation editing. I guess all you'd have to do is create a custom formation to where the last couple of rows of men stand waayyyy behind the rest of the men.

Brilliant idea, especially for Roman unit : even if during this timeframe the Roman Army lost most of maneuveuring skills (i think they foght more in two main lines, and the system of cohort replacement during combat is no more in their capabilities), i presume that disengaging was possible without presenting its back to the opponents !

I' m glad you like the idea...a far i know it's possible to edit animation used when in formation (some mods did that), the only thing i'm doubtful about is how animations can influence the formation's behaviour: if i add a step backward animation, will the formation itself step backward too, or i'll have a formation where men have a "moonwalk syndrome"?

Regarding late Roman Army, well, as you pointed out romans still used to deploy themselves in a double line formation. This makes me think that maybe they still were able to relief troops from the first line...
