One thing I've always felt was missing in total war games was the internal division which the ruler of any civilization has to deal with. Emperors (and rulers in general) always had to deal with the inevitable revolt of usurpers, especially from successful generals. Attila Total War does this better than any other total war game. But I still feel the civil wars are too easily manageable. It is too easy to tell when a general is about to revolt, and simply order him home or pay him off.

I think it would be great if every once in awhile a highly ranked general got a special usurper trait, removing all of his loyalty and immediately causing him to revolt before the player can do anything about it. Even better if this trait was connected to the authority of your ruler, increasing in likely-hood the lower your ruler's influence is.

Is this possible? I think it would be great if mods added something like this. Even better if it happened to the AI as well.
