Hi guys, I'm still having problem with barracks in Caen.
1. I have to upgrade my castle to a fortress to be able to build barracks right?
2. What do i have to do to be able to upgrade the castle to a fortress?
3. Thank you ;-)

The population in the city has to reach a certain number
6000 if i'm not mistaken
Try sending peasants to Caen from nearby cities and castles, then disband them once they are inside Caen. It shouldn't take too long to get the population up that way.
Oh so they upgrade the same way as cities? cool, thanks
Edit: it doesn't work that way with disbanding anymore

It doesn't? damn, I haven't really needed to try it in M2:TW, so I just presumed it was unchanged from Rome, oh wellOriginally Posted by RexMortali

Here's the city/castle upgrade population stats from the manual anyways:
Fortress = 4500
Citadel = 9000
--------------------
Town = 400
Large Town = 2000
City = 6000
Large City = 12000
Huge City = 24000
You need a opulation of 4500 to be able to upgrade a castle to a fortress. You should be able to build some barrack buildings even if it is a castle, they'll be called Town Watch etc.

I'm also disappointed that you can't train swordsmen sooner. I could only train spearmen infantry for my first ~40 turns. Luckily I only encountered Rebel spearmen, because my light infantry would've been cut to pieces by enemy swordsmen. Finally, I was able to upgrade my castles in Caen and ... (the settlement north of London?) ... to Fortresses, which enabled me to train Billmen (which AREN'T nearly as strong as a remembered from M:TW). I then constructed a military building (can't recall which one) in my second Fortress that enabled me to train Dismounted Knights. I'm currently constructing a Barracks in that Fortress that'll enable me to train basic Swordsmen; I'm eager to crank out these bad boys, because my enemies, HRE and Milan, don't appear to have any heavy infantry yet.Originally Posted by RexMortali
The settlement north of London is called Nottingham and I really don't know why CA decided to make all pike, halberd and billmen units have higher attack stats than defence, I remember in M:TW they were really good defensive units, now they are nowhere near as good as their used to be :hmmm:Originally Posted by Soryn Arkayn
