Default Unspecified error issue after downloaded Medieval II Total War Collection on steam

    Hello,

I just purchased the Medieval II Total War Collection package on steam and installed the game fully. When I start up the game, it launches into a black screen and a message pops up that says "encountered an unspecified error and will now exit". I've read several forums about this issue and have followed the following steps: I formatted my computer and reinstalled the Medieval II Total War Collection and verified the cache game files. I know my computer can run Medieval II because I used to play Rome II on this PC. Has any one had a similar issue and been able to resolve it and play the game?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Please describe the way you are starting the game.
Have you tried to play the kingdom campaigns?

I've tried opening the game by pressing play on the steam menu.

I also tried by going to properties on the game from steam and opening the local medieval II folder and pressing the launcher from there.

Can you please download and install this set up (kingdoms version). Make sure you install it into the "medieval ii total war" main folder. Then start it by double clicking it's desktop short cut. If it still crashes then we'll take it from there.

    Now I need a log.

    1. Start Bare Geomod with the desktop short cut
    2. When it crashes with the message, click ok on the message (close it)
    3. Browse to the ...\Medieval II Total War\logs folder
    4. If the folder does not exist start again with point 1
    5. Compress the file in the logs folder (7Zip is freeware)
    6. Upload that compressed file a to hosting service like media fire
    7. Copy\paste the provided link in a post here.
