Why would you not accepted it?
Which offer?
When you are Gondor, Aragorn can offer to enter the royal family.
Many people vote NO on this item, because it will give Denethor bad traits and most people train Denethor as a money-making MACHINE serving as governor of Minas Tirith.
Only if you are already winning the game and have plenty of money, you may wish to accept his offer for lore reasons. You already have many generals with unique bodyguard units that serve as good fighters.
Yay! Nothing else to say really. Aragorn simply is Aragorn + his bloodline is awesome.

What turn does this happen in? I'm already at the year 2990 (a decade in) and I've received no such messages. Denethor is in his 70s now, he's getting a bit old anyway, not going to last forever, even if he does have good traits at the moment.
assuming that you are playing vanilla TATW my friend, from the FAQs
this is a single shot message, so it might be that you missed it and accidentally closed the request windowQ: How do I get Aragorn ?
A: If you play with Eriador he will be your faction leader. If you play as Gondor, he will always offers his services to you after turn 70 (the exact turn is based on random chance). Furthermore he will be a regular (not a faction leader), but a powerful general.![]()

Thanks!
I have only tried Gondor once, was seriously ass-kicked and am wary to repeat...![]()
Gondor is a lot of work. A lot of fun, and no boring time spent marching units across the map, but a lot of work. There are some great guides in the strategy subforum here. You have to actively kill Harad forces around your borders before they accumulate into stacks. Take Imrahil (he has an awesome custom bodyguard of swan knights) and some cavalry and just roam around trying to fight any Harad units that come to the land bridge while at the same time taking settlements from Mordor on your norther front, in order to increase your funds and reduce their training centers. Conquering Harad by land later is somewhat messy, as their territory has few choke points, so it can sometimes be worthwhile to storm Umbar by sea. You can do it, it's well worth the satisfaction of winning (eventually lol). And then yes, you can decide if you would like Aragorn to join the fray in the mid/late game.
anyone liking turtling, should check this, just scroll down until you reach the red text.

Gondor has no king. Gondor needs no king!
‘But I say to thee, Gandalf Mithrandir, I will not be thy tool! I am Steward of the House of Anárion. I will not step down to be the dotard chamberlain of an upstart. Even were his claim proved to me, still he comes but of the line of Isildur. I will not bow to such a one, last of a ragged house long bereft of lordship and dignity.’

"...but of the line of Isildur." And therefore also Elendil, the High King. What a strange remark.
It might also be that the message appeared at the start of a turn, you saved the game before answering, quit the game, then later reloaded that save: the question will not be re-asked in that situation. So if you hadn't seen it before you quit then as far as you're aware the question was never asked in the first place.
Although...
...that's only 40 turns. Still, what I said above is something worth remembering: never save and quit until you have answered any yes/no scrolls.
I guess Denethor probably meant that Aragorn was just but a "general" descendant from Isildur and not necessarly one who had the rights (even before than the personal credits) to be considered a real heir and pretender for the trone; under this light I see the "proved claim", as the old Deny wasn't aware that Aragorn actually descended from Isildur from father to son (from what he could know, the line of kings in the north has been vanished since Arvedui).
I don't have sources to state this, but one can reasonably argue that Gondor stewards knew little to nothing about what was happening in the emptiness of Eriador, after the loss of the Palantiri
true, that's why it is always better to save before ending the turn. Does reloading the turn autosave bring up again the event windows? (IIRC bulding and recruitment windows are not reloaded)

A matter of interpretation I suppose but I take "claim proved" to mean "the unquestionably rightful descendant of Isildur"."Even were his claim proved to me, still he comes but of the line of Isildur."
No, it doesn't. The only way is by script re-issuing the message upon a game reload; possible but TATW does not do it.
All is well guys, I finally got the message about Aragorn, and have accepted his services.
Also, big thanks to DrDragun about Imrahil's Swan Knights bodyguard unit. They're beastly. I can't wait to have advanced enough barracks in Dol Amroth to recruit Swan Knights regularly! As for heavier units, I'm so far am able to have Ithilien Rangers, Gondor Infantry, Gondor Spearmen, and Gondor Cavalry, though (plus one settlement that can recruit Citadel Guard, or Kingsguard). I'm pretty satisfied with that at the moment, but I eventually want those Gondor Archers, Fountain Guard and Osgiliath Pikemen! These buildings take forever to construct! And cost so damn much too.

Well, there is an upside and a downside: The upside is Aragorn, who comes well ready to tackle the worst mordor has to offer, and him becoming faction heir if im not mistaken. The downside is that Denethor gets a few negative traits. On my gondor campaigns in MOS, i always accept aragorn because denying him would beto the lore, despite the fact that denethor is already the best commander in middle earth.
Boromir is still heir in my game and even if Aragorn became faction leader he would only be a Steward![]()
You can change that to 'King' with a quick fix if Aragorn becomes FL![]()
