    Default Priest/Cardinal tactics

    Heys guys,

Just wondering what you guys do to imrpove your priests/cardinals, to get them either become cardinals or to give the cardinal a chance of becoming pope.

Thanks To be honest im abit loss with the use of them.

Hunt down heretics, recruit many priests send them to areas with few catholics to convert them. and more over build churches and cathedrals as much as you can. Esp cathedrals improve the relation with the Pope big time. As soon as it is good, your priests will get promoted to cardinal by the Pope and elected.

I build my priests in london, where I have a Theologians Guild HQ (And a Huge Cathedral, but I'm not sure if that helps) and they usually come out of there with 5-6 in piety. Then I send them into eastern Europe to convert some unorthodox lands, or if it's a particularly good priest I'll send them off to Africa or the Holy Lands, they usually end up grabbing a load of piety increases pretty quickly in either place. Leaving them sitting around in a city with a Huge Cathedral seems to work pretty well for giving them decent retinue members. For a Cardinal to have a chance of being the pope you want max piety, and some useful traits that give bonuses to 'eligibility' (Though there's no documentation on what the 'extra' priest attributes of purity, violence, eligibility do).

Yeah I was wondering that. I took violence to mean their ability to burn heretics and purity their chance of converting to heresy.

Can priests/cardinals go into enemy camps?

Well, I have found a very efficient way of getting Pope, though not Cardinals. After some hard work, I have an assassin that has 10 for sub, yet if you add him up, its more like 15 with how much I use him. Sending him with a few other assassins and a spy to Rome, and every time someone is elected Pope, I killed him. Soon I had it down to 4 cardinals in the house, and mine among them. Basically bribing the 4th one, I got to become Pope. Dirty tactic and cost some lower level assassins and a bit of time, but hey, it works and now I am Perfect to the Pope (no wonder, he is afraid of dying if I am not )

So if you fail at Pope assassination, how much will the Pope hate you? Immediate excommunication or what?

I was excommunicated maybe 2x that exercise. You fail and get caught is when you really get yelled at by the church. But as soon as the current pope dies... you are forgiven
