    Default General's Bodyguard

Is it possible to make different bodyguards different types of units (not all cavalry). Because the Spartans had their king in a phalanx of hippeis hoplites, so I think if you do can do that, that would be cool, also in Greece cavalry combat in most areas was not prevailent

I've never played a game with the general's bodyguard anything but cavalry. Can anyone fill me in on this will work, is it different than the cavalry force? Do they behave differently?

Tzif if you got XGM mod try making the Royal guard a general_unit in the export_descr_unit file, and see what you think,

@ Heg team just a quick question is their any further units due to be previewed? and if so who, or is that our lot?.

Early in the game, if you're playing as a mainland Greek, your armies are going to be mainly hoplites and slaves/psiloi- some very light cavalry which will be useful only against routers and sometimes the enemy psiloi. Mostly it will be about hoplites, and like in RTW, your generals bodyguard will be a nice reserve. Unlike the cavalry generals of RTW they won't be as easily shredable- most things move more slowly with infantry, this will be no different- your general will be less mobile but far more heavily armored, and you'll never have to cry about him stupidly charging into spearmen and getting killed within seconds. Some people have expressed concerns about the infantry battles possibly being more slow overall- that is not the case. As always routing the enemy is going to come into things and these hoplites have powerful charges.

Now outside of the mainland things will be different. Cavalry will play a far greater role there, and many factions have cavalry generals. They'll act as they always do.

    3 questions guys:

1.Did you solve problem with general infantry units, when he's in phalanx ? As i recall in early RTR, general unit was in phalanx but that unit couldn't raise spears.that was so painful to watch, especially when you need speed and mobility.
Once when I was on seige mission i had to run towards the walls quickly, but because my general unit could't raise spears, I had to slow down my entire army, so that he could be protected form enemy arrows.

2.Can choose if we want our general to be in cavalry or infantry?

3.If the general is in infatry (phalanx) unit, is he placed inside in upper right corner of a unit (like in real life) or is he on the left?

No It will depend on what faction you play as

As far as i know officers are always on the left in RTW i dont think this can be changed

If changing the location of the general were possible I think we'd put him in one of the middle files in the row furthest right. Being in the back of a spearmen formation would be disastrous in RTW- one small cavalry charge and you're short a general.
