Default Suggestion for the combat preview

    Hey everyone,

I tested your combat preview mod and I really am appreciated. Thank you guys it is truely awesome. BUT I think you should make the shock cavalry charges a bit more powerful. I mean 10 griv-penvar or whatever should beat eastern armoured legio quite decisively. I was testing with AI and the unit wasnt even properly bracing.

Edit: They cant even beat palatina guards

the preview has little to do with AE as it is currently, you would be better to comment in the pinned discussion about Warriors of Faith (the AE combat mod). Sheridan should reply to you

Hello Nahrime. Very glad to hear you're liking the combat preview.

When it comes to cavalry charges, we want to keep them mildly effective from the front. The goal is (much as portrayed in the current version) to have heavy cavalry capable of delivering considerable damage even in a frontal charge, but still not more than that they need to withdraw and perform the cycle all over. Light cavalry, on the other hand, is meant to be much more vulnerable in that same scenario, to the degree at which it'd be too costly to assault any heavier infantry from the front since the horses and horsemen lack sufficient protection. In other words, wearing down both sides, to little gain for either. Their role is meant to be as a flanking unit or to attack much more lightly armoured opponents like skirmishers and hunt them down.

In other words, cataphracts being unable to take out more heavily armoured troops like legionaries within one or a few charges is by design. You can rely on them to cause quite some damage though. Currently, the charge and withdraw tactic isn't viable since troops take horrendous casualties upon withdrawing from combat. It's a vanilla issue, which if it will persist, might force us to re-think this concept.

Yes the problem is the casulties taken when withdrawing. It just wastes a cavalry unit with 1 charge and that is not enough of course.
