Fun fact, if you want to play as a Hellenistic Faction with good access to high tier native troops, either play as Eperios and go for federalization or play as the Kimmerios Bosphoros.

I agree with Epeiros, but with KB, all of their non-Nomadic governments require high levels of HP. The highest-requiring one, Royal Satrapy, requires 55% and a level 2 poleis! Many royal satrapy regions (Media, Persepolis, 2 of the Caucasian regions) start with next to no Hellenistic Polities, so reaching that point is a nightmare. You'd have to invest 2 colony points into a level 2 Hellenistic Military Colony, then 1 to establish a Minor Poleis, then station a high-influence FM in that settlement to slowly finish raising HP to 55%. Then you have to tear down the hard-earned Hellenistic Military Colony to make way for Foreign Military Colony.

At least for the KB, the native units they get from their factional governments (Especially their main ones) are better than most. however, I do agree that getting high HP for their upper tier governments will take hard work and a lot of pain is to be expected....

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the KH can access good native recruitment + access foreign military colonies as long as there is no polis (Epimeleteia epi Laous), however, getting the 25% HP required to get their precursor government (Doriktetos Ge) in non-Hellenic areas is even more torturous compared to the KB since the KH cannot build Hellenistic Military Colonies to convert to the required level, to compound the issue, Doriktetos Ge is the only KH factional government that has no conversion (Everything else converts up to 50% HP).

Royal Satrapy, requires 55% and a level 2 poleis!
As KB you get a lot of the good native units from the allied clan government so that's not an issue.Upgrading to Royal Satrapy will give you mostly hellenic units and having a large supply of high tier nomad cavalry from a low tier government is great.

Then you have to tear down the hard-earned Hellenistic Military Colony to make way for Foreign Military Colony.
Sorry but what?If you wanted a Foreign Military Colony you wouldn't need to build any of the other buildings.

One last clarification, why is it ok (as a Hellenistic power) to have the native government and foreign colony combo OUTSIDE the old persian empire? Wouldn't this just create the same eastern imperial culture clash problem? Also, foreign colonies DON'T cancel out the rosters provided by native or supervised native governments, right?

Because the Foreign Colony represents more than just the Persian model of settling outsiders. That's also why it doesn't raise Eastern Imperial outside of the former Persian Empire (or in Egypt, which is immune to that conversion).

No building cancels out the recruitment of another building. They're also different sorts of units, colonies give professionals and other higher-grade units, where governments give the whole range from local levies to elites (though the latter rarely).

Huh, neat. As a historical query note, Egypt was THAT resistant to foreign (eastern imperial) influence?

The only thing that changed were the people at the top as the Makedonians replaced the Persians. That and the civil service/military class immediately below them. For the ordinary person, life carried on.

I think the Saka Rauka should have access to all schools. At the moment they only have access to School 1.

Please restore the projectile arc of all slingers to pre-2.35a, if this change was unintentional. Under the new changes the arc is lower than Chandler Parson's 3 point shot. In pitched battles, stones will inflicts more casualties on your heavily armored frontlines than the enemy's barely armored skirmishers. If historical evidence and modern reconstruction of slings say otherwise, then that's fine. Slingers are can still be deployed on the flanks supported by cavalry, and in sieges they are invaluable as ever shooting into the backs of clustered enemies engaged in slogs against yours.

Nah, all Sakan children need to know are riding, shooting, and speaking the truth. Jokes aside, IIRC the Sakans never urbanized to the degree that they would have magnificent and centralized education centers that schools beyond level 1 represent. There was an Indo-Sakan kingdom though and the settler Sakastan kingdom, but those historically came MUCH later than when most players achieve the settled reforms in EBII. In the meantime what you can do is hold off conquering Taksashila (the city) until the Taksashilans have upgraded their schools past level 1. The starting level 1 school in Taksashila represent the famed Taxilan University which attracted students from all over India, China, and even Baktria and Arabia. Let them expand their education over the course of a couple hundred turns or two, then conquer them, but don't sack or enslave! You don't want your nomads downgrading the schools through the wanton destruction of knowledge and enslavement of intellectuals

The Ptolemies' Supervised Hellenic Administration now requires a City (6000+ population and level 3 walls) to build. This puts the player in an extremely sticky situation upon conquering a settlement under 6000 population but with a hellenistic colony. The player can't build a Hellenic Administration because of the hellenistic colony, and cannot build a Supervised Hellenic Administration either because the settlement is under 6000 population. The player can't just plop down a Military Administration and build up to a level 3 settlement either, because doing so requires level 3 fertility/farming temples and level 3 farms, both of which cannot be built with a Military Administration. A governor with famine-reducing traits/ancillaries won't help either because a settlement under 6000 population doesn't suffer from enough famine to decrease in the first place! Thus, the player is forced to destroy the valuable hellenistic colony, establish a Hellenic Administration, rebuild the hellenistic colony, and finally upgrade to a Supervised Hellenic Administration.

Some settlements that cause this problem at the beginning of the game are: Ambrakia, Demetrias, Ipsos, Europos, Persis. Halicarnassus also has this issue, but they're owned by the Ptolemies at the start of the campaign anyways. The real problem is when you conquer areas that cannot build the Native line of governments but you want to hellenize it anyways. Regions like the southern tip of Arabia, Ethiopia, and deep into the Caucasus will never reach 6000+ population, unable to go through the Native government -> hellenistic colony -> hellenistic poleis -> Supervised Hellenistic Administration pipeline. This is probably intended by the EBII team though to discourage the player from exerting direct control over ahistorical regions...

On a related note, the Seleucids and Baktrians also require a level 3 settlement for a Supervised Hellenic Administration, but fortunately for them they can build another government with good infrastructure options that don't require a level 3 settlement. Heck, said government (Satrapal District) requires either a foreign or hellenistic colony anyways, so it's no big deal. The Ptolemies have no such satrapy system though, so they have difficult choices to make as a result.

To remedy this, please consider reverting the requirement for the Ptolemaic Supervised Hellenic Administration back to large_town. Other factions with equivalent governments (Pergamon's Redistributed Land, Epeiros' Guardianship, and Makedonia's Supervised Hellenic Administration) don't have such restrictions.

IIRC the Taksashilan's best government in India before the Mauryans also experiences this issue. That government does not allow the construction of level 3 fertility/farming temples whose population growth bonus barely pushes the population over 6000, yet it's the only option in India for settlements below city level. This also means that developing those two large_town settlements in coastal India into a city is not possible. You'd have to station a very good governor there which is not guaranteed. A possible fix is to allow the construction of those temples in that government.

Hi, are there any plans to make the Baktria\Sogdiana area more historically accurate and feature rich, or at least more like EB1?

The rivers Polytimetus or Uzboj are not present, and Bukhara's location is completely wrong, hundred miles much more westward than its actual location. Then, Baktria boundaries stretch up to Marakanda's doorstep, although this is mostly cosmethic.

Hey Quintus, a question regarding representation of minor settlements, will they be included like unique buildings inside settlement(provincial capital) with trade bonus, or some sort recruitment options, or stay oblivious on the map, as they are now ? Would be cool to include them for educational purposes most of all.

A new version of the map is being worked on (for a couple of years now) and team members like bovi are making tools to ease the implementation of such a massive change to our systems of code which rely on the map itself (hidden resources, scripting with locations, and character trait locations). Progress is pretty steady on that front, it's mainly thanks to baktra and bovi that the new map is possible at all. Otherwise it would be far too time consuming to implement a new map like this. With respect to your specific issues, I cant say whether those will be addressed but I will direct baktra to this thread, since hes the one who creates the map itself. Thanks.

To follow up on this, Baktra confirmed this will be addressed in the new map as those issues were part of the initial impetus for him joining the team.

"... upon completion it was 272 square feet at its base, and ..." -- Description of the Ziggurat of Marduk.

That is, if you excuse my French, utter bollocks. If anything it was 272 feet squared at the base (272 x 272 feet). But 272 square feet would be something like 16 feet wide and 17 feed deep. Mighty wonder that would be ... Please fix this. Meanwhile I imagine the disappointment on the faces of my Arsacid conquerors when as they find out that the famous Ziggurat is no bigger than their bed chamber (although a lot taller, admittedly).

Another thing that's been bugging me for the longest time: The inconsistent spacing of different horse-archer units. For example, the Daha Wazdatę and Daha Baragatę have a wider spacing than the Aswar i Kamanan, which makes lining up a mixed army somewhat annoying since units get placed by equal width on the battlefield when drawing up battle lines (resulting in deep columns). And also odd that the units that are capable of charging are the ones that are wider spaced than the one that isn't (at least not effectively). Now, I haven't checked if there is a historical reason and this discrepancy is intentional. If that were the case, I'd, of course, withdraw this suggestion, but just in case it's accidental, I'd thought I'd bring it up.

couple of features i think could improve and spice things up a little:

    1. bring back flaming arrows. i know in field battles they are out of place but it is sieges that make the majority of engagements (both historically and gameplay wise, at least in my games), so removing flaming arrows whilst trying to improve realism in one sphere utterly ruins it in other. sieges looks bland and fire and more likelihood of siege equipment burning would definitely add to the overall atmosphere and havoc. honestly it just too 'civil' without them. after all, like Henry V said, 'war without fire is like sausages without mustard.'

    2. remove limits on raiding, allowing it to be performed regardless of the faction and its size. empires engaged in raiding and harrying no less frequently and efficiently than smaller states and capping when you can raid ruins the immersion and limits player's options. raiding is such an awesome feature allowing several things at once - role playing, gaining experience for FMs, ruining enemy territory, and filling one's coffers. i dont see why the option should be taken away when it adds so much to the gameplay. raiding should be there regardless the faction size to allow for all those excellent elements to continue to enrich the gameplay. also, add notification acknowledgements for every successful raid so the player can see the 'fruit of their labour' rather than be left guessing. and reporting the amount of gold gained would be a nice touch too.
