Hi everyone. I recently decided that I wanted to get back into Medieval 2: Total War (as well as some mods) as I hadn't played it since my old 2011 computer. I installed it via steam, then loaded it up. Unfortunately, it does one of two things:
1. Makes a loading screen then just stops working.
2. If it's during a campaign, it will autoload the most recent save, irrelevant of any actions I do.
The second one is more common, the first one will happen anytime from the faction selection screen (where you choose the faction you wish to play as in the campaign) to partway into the first turn (about 1 times in 100 I can get to turn 2 before it does one of the stated issues).
Hoping it might just be the launcher/basic game/compatibility issues, I first tried running the launcher in Windows 7 compatibility, as well as XP and Windows 8 (I am running 8.1) but none made a difference. Then I installed a separate launcher, and tried running it from that. Once again, same issues. Finally, I installed a variety of mods, but they also had the same issues. The system log says nothing is wrong. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
For reference, this is my build:
Windows 8.1
i7 4770k (at stock clocks)
Hyper Master 212 Evo
Asus Z97-A
A 2TB Seagate Barracuda Hard Drive
2x8 sticks of Corsair Vengeance ram (cas 9 1866mhz)
Tried with a 7870 ghz first (with older and most recent drivers), then (after uninstalling AMD drivers) a GTX 260 (with the latest drivers)
1300w Evga Supernova G2 PSU
