Default Zone of Control and E:TW Intercept System

    Hello people,

I'm sure most of you are aware the issues of Zone of control (that red area around armies/cities) to both player and AI.

Maybe the idea behind this, is good, but it does not work as intented.
Yes you can mod Zone of control area etc easily but then it loses it's point of existence.

On the other hand E:TW had such nice different working feature (imo anyway)

I think I can call it "Intercept system"

    For those who doesn't know, or needs to be reminded;

When an army trying to pass you by (up to some distance, like zone of control), you could have an option to intercept it or not (simply, attack), isn't it realistic especially when considering Turn time is 3 months so you could really do that in real life?

    - - - -

I already opened a thread on Official forum and got more support than I expected, if u agree and wanna keep it alive, pls do so
Maybe that way, we will have it back some time, not Attila maybe but another game at least. (Better than none)

Supported, with one caveat: no flying settlements.

    flying settlements? o.O

and well that system wasn't %100 perfect for sure, but was better than this one still, also could be improved (like mix this one and that one into different one)

If you triggered an interception near an AI settlement it became a siege assault with you forced to attack their fort. The silly things was that even though you were intercepted, you were the attacker on the battlefield. If the AI sat in their fort and you let the clock run down, you lost. Wonderful!

The ZoC was pretty big so you could be forced into a fort assault from halfway across the country. Hence, the amazing flying forts of Empire.

ah I got it, well it needs optimization for sure, and s/o stated a very good hybrid system on official forum

ZOC and the ability to intercept are essential features of war games. I'd love to hear CA's explanation why it isn't suitable for TWR2 and TWA...

this feature was awesome because it meant the enemy could technically attack you during your turn.

They fluffed it in Empire, though. The interceptions should (logically) have been field battles, with the interceptors the attackers, given the interceptions usually occurred great distances from settlements. They got it backwards, unfortunately.

That said, I heartily agree with barry12's point.

Well they fluffed more with this one..

Instead making a new one they easily could fix the previous one..
But we dont even know if its same team working on games or completely different people..

Yeah that totally sucked due to the awful fort battles of Empire. Jeez, I remember seeing fort battles in Empire the first time and thinking," Awesome! I get to attack/defend this beast of a fort!", before realising fort battles were the most frustrating, glitchy, bug-ridden process in the history of TW games.

Agreed, they should be field battles. But even the fort battles of Attila are really good IMO, especially now the Assembly Kit is out and people can mod the forts.

Yeah, the option to intercept like in Empire would be better than the magical 'you shall not pass but the AI can retreat through' zone of control.

    Seconded,
I really wish Attila and Rome2 had this feature: it would help a lot when the AI has an army the same size as your but flees and you cannot attack because of the ZOC.

Wait a second, why this thread in Mods section?!

It was for General discussion in this forum and Official (as I shared the link), NOT for modding, what the?!

Is this even possible to create as a mod?

It would be brilliant. So many features that I've forgotten about that'd make this game so much better.

I don't think it is possible, and idk which moderator moved the thread here.. It wasn't a Mod idea.. As I shared on Official forum also..

This is needed really badly. I really don't understand why CA throws out great mechanics like this.
