    Default The Moors?

After getting my ass kicked as the HRE by biting off way more then I can chew, I want a change of pace. Right now, its between the Turks and The Moors. I'm leaning towards the Moors though. It seems like the Turks have awesome units as time goes on, but I'm not digging their location.

What I'm wondering is, has anyone started a grand campaign with the Moors? If so, how is it going?

    I did.
A very peacefull campaign. I invaded Lisboa and Toledo and they sued for peace. Then, no neighbours : no enemy.
Took Tripoli, Sardinia, Corsica and Ireland (converted to islam).

I like this campaign because i'm at last at peace and i can extend my cities, make business etc.

No but playing as Spain I have been allied with the Moors for a long time, not by choice they were originally my target of conquest but before I went through with it Portugal and France ganged up on me and the Moors had already been at war with them for some time so the alliance was my only choice.

I'm not sure how peacefull it would be, on H/VH the moors are at war constantly, France and Portugal both declared on them. Sicily was at war with them for a long time but not sure if they ever had any actual land battles, and Egypt has been spreading west after they lost their northern territories to crusaders and I'm just waiting for them to declare war on the Moors as well now that Sicilian held Tunis is the only city between the Moors and Egyptians.

I don't like the look of the Eastern civs, I'm a very infantry heavy player and I don't like archers much. A shame too because I like the Middle Eastern building/unit look.

Turks got pretty good heavy inf, like Heavy Janissary infantry, but that comes late in the game :/ im playin as turks and all i can make is some horse archers and spear militia lol. Byzantine campaign is really easy at the begenning but when other faction invent guns, you will be stuck with VArangians

You want quality heavy infantry? You'll want to look at the English or Danes then. (You can ignore the fine English longbowmen :-)

Turks are all right. Hard to move in that region, but theyre surrounded by rebels, which is nice, and then at the beginning you only get to fight with Byzance (who get attacked by other factions on the other sides after some time), and later Egypt, who doesn't seem to put much effort in the war and let it's border rather undefended. Which leads me toa negative point against the AI, I was allied with Egypt, and then all of a sudden they break the alliance and blockade a port, and I just attack them and see their border is very undefended... why then not stay allied with me?

Moors are pretty awsome. Though their later unit line-up don't look great. Moors aren't too bad infantry wise unlike Egypt and the Turks (before they get the janissaries). I tried some battles with the Moors in custom combat and their Urban Militias and Christian Guard units can take on most European heavy-inf. I guess the Moors are the most "euro" of the Muslim factions. But unlike their bros Egypt and Turks, the Moors don't get as good a selection of Heavy Cav and Horse Archers.

In my campaign the Moors basically haven't done anything the whole game, they allied with Spain and Portugal and haven't tried to invade Egypt. I think they screwed up the power balance in Europe TBH, Spain became quite powerful because they weren't in a long drawn out war with the Moors or Portugal, so Spain easily annililated France.

Yessir I have. At first I went back to the HRE after realizing following the popes every wish is what got me powerless. It was much more enjoyable. But, I read this thread again and read peoples experiences with how cool the Moors are, so I had to give them a decent shot.

    I really, really like them.

The location they have is the exact opposite of the HRE, you can really play it the way you want to. You don't have to worry about attacks from all sides, this gives you time to build up your army and consolidate your power. Speaking of that, I spent most of the time building up my black smiths and castles with them, so when I finally went to war against Portugal, my camel heavy calvary cut threw them like nobodies business.

I also got extremely lucky with one of my first sons. At 16 he had total war attributes and night fighting. Very As I campained with him against rebels (just to cut his teeth) he gained all sorts of blood thirsty attributes like his very own beserker. Here is a pic of him and my prized Camel calvary about to flank an unsuspecting portugese army!

Another thing I love about the Moors is their Middle Eastern/African style. The whole thing just seems far,f ar cooler then the HRE units yelling out "Keiser!" every time I click on them. "Sultan" is so much more appealing.

Spain is starting to invade, but they shouldn't be much of a problem. I have a serious army lined up to take them on. I've established a port near sicily. So, after I take out the Portugese and Spanish near me, I'm going right threw Palermo.

If you are picking the Turks, be prepared for the Mongols. They come with archer units wich have 3 silver chevrons and with units that cost 0 upkeep. Im facing them in my Venice campaign and i've lost Nicea and Byzantium due to them .

I'm playing as the moors currently. Things were going peaceful until my nobles asked me to take valencia, which I did. This apparently scared Spain and Portugal into allying against me. I withstood back to back battles for Corduba, and now because the portuguese dont want a ceasefire I'm at the gates to their capital. I was in the middle of the battle when the effi game froze, after I did like 10 mins of skirmishing it pulled that ****.

Thinking about starting a campaign as them, desires peace at the beginning so I can build up my empire.

Venice is probably the best heavy infantry based nation imo. Sometimes the unit cards just don't show all there is to a unit, dismounted conquistidors in Spain are very very good heavy infantry (constantly beat up on England and France in sieging walls). They have better stats than Venetian Heavy Infantry (6 more defense but 3 less charge) but I had my first battle of the entire game against Venice and their heavy infantry just ate up my veteran dismounted conquistidors. Lost 2 full units of them before I could get the rest to retreat. Was the first large scale battle in a long while in that campaign that I really got routed.

No they aren't really like the Turks at all. They have no horse archers.

They have Urban Militias, which are excellent infantry. They have Christian Guard which is Euro-style heavy cav that can become dismounted to be heavy infantry. They have excellent light skirmisher cavalry - like the Desert Cav. They also have Camel cav which later gain access to Camel mounted gunners.

Overall they have good infantry, excellent light cav but lacks good heavy cav and horse archers.
