Well, after playing 50 turns with england, i unlocked the danes and gave them a try. very fun so far.![]()
I started off taking Hamburg, then the castle southeast of it(mitlzburg or something), and finally stettin on the coast west of hamburg. i did this first because i knew the northern rebels wouldnt be invaded any time soon, and i could gain a better foothold.
i didnt want to risk losing troops so i starved each settlement in the south which resulted in the enemy not even trying to attack me at hamburg. i had immediately allied with poland and the hre. once i conquered oslo and stockholm, i just built up the economy while i made 3 priests, two of which are now cardinals. im making about 3000 florins/turn with around 2 stacks scattered throughout my southern provinces. all of my settlements are cities, aside from hamburg, and oslo to the north. hamburg makes infantry, and oslo makes cavalry/archers. all the rebel settlements were cakewalks(no surprise)
currently im on turn 38, and the HRE backstabbed me at about turn 30 i believe. at Mitlzburg(or however u spell it :hmmm: ) i defended the wooden walled city of 3 mercenary crossbow and 3 mercenary spearmen garrison versus i think 937 HRE infantry, with one mailed knight unit. they have sent a few small armies to siege it in the past 2 turns, but one was easily fended off, they didnt reach the walls. the other they saw me moving reinforcements to the city and lifted the siege.
my castle at hamburg was besieged, but was easily fended off by 3 archer units, a general, one mailed knights, and two militia spearmen. they only had about 500 men, and i had fun watching my archers slaughter their men before they got to the walls.![]()
after that, i recruited 3 units of norse knights, retrained a weak spearmen unit, and headed out towards the imperial capital just southwest of hamburg(is it nuremburg?im bad with city names) anyways, i sent them to hide in the trees just passed their border near the mountains. i hired a mercenary spearmen and mercenary crossbow units. i sent them to the west, and a half stack army of the hre guarding the mountain pass near my main army chased them. i then walked through and besieged the capital. at this point my army was two milita spearmen, 3 dismounted norse knights, 2 peasant archers, 2 mercenary crossbows, a general, and a milita knights unit.
i was attacked right away as the 1200 men in the capital rushed out to me, with the half stack army that was guarding the pass returning to them as reinforcement.![]()
being the tactical genius that i am, of course, after a small skirmish between our archers/crossbows, i bullrushed the 1200 man army before reinforcements could arrive. i managed to get my army in a somewhat U shape around theirs, and had my archers/crossbows shooting in the center of them, which resulted in only 5 or so friendly fire accidents. my two cavalry flanked around the army, and just as the enemy noticed and started to run it was too late. i almost instantly decimated two militia crossbow units, and the other two routed. i charged into the back of the U shape my army had already formed, completely surrounding them and almost instantly killing 100 men. their whole army turned into the fighting to the death symbols, so i stopped my surround allowing them to rout(to minimize casualties for the other half stack army reinforcements almost at me)
i formed up my infantry and archers/crossbows to face the reinforcements, while my cavalry destroyed 5 more hre infantry units, and decimated several others. by this time, the next battle was starting, my crossbows/archers inflicted around 100 casualties before the enemy got to me(very lucky, probably won me the battle) i charged my remaining 43 spearmen and 120ish dismounted norse knights into the enemy army. my cavalry was ready to flank, it had 15 left in the general unit and 22 in the mailed knights unit. they sent their general to take care of my cavarly, but i destroyed them and their general with a combined loss of 8 or so.
at this time, my infantry were somehow holding up versus the hre that outnumbered them by 300 at least. i manuevered my crossbows and archers around to the side. it seemed i was still going to lose, after coming so far, but when i charged my remaining cavalry into the enemy's rear, units started to rout. i chased them down with my cavalry to prevent them from coming back to fight, and my infantry and archers finally cleaned up the last two infantry units that didnt rout. i chased down all the routers, with great results.
i had 933 prisoners caught on the day, with i believe 400 something of 700something lost on my side(not 100% sure of what i started out with)
the enemy managed to escape with 150 or so men left. my dad had been watching since he wanted to see how this game looked on my new laptop(which is great btw,all on high settings w/ no lag) i asked him if i should ransom/execute/release, and he said execute so....

i had to send that army back to be retrained, but it will soon be marching through the hre with even more men, as ive reinforced hamburgs with several norse archer units and some feudal knights.
i will probably play some more tonight, but i wont update again until tomorrow. if anyone has any questions/comments please let me know![]()
or if you want to discuss tactics for the danes or just tactics in general.
