    Default relations?

Hey do relations have to do with anything really? I'm Spain and i had Portugal as "amaitable" as in they kid of liked me and they besieged a settlement out of nowhere, while almost my entire army was half a map away crusading to anitoch. (they were only netural But they were apparently still "amaitable" even tho I was at war with them. Also France keeps allying with the moors and gets upset when I attack them even tho they are Muslims. Wtf?

If i would be Portugal in your game i would have done exactly the same as the AI.
    Good job CA good job
You ask for steak, I bring you fish. You say that you think steak is better than fish. I say that fish is much more popular than steak so obviously it's better. You say that no matter how good the fish is it can't be better at being steak than the actual steak we used to serve. I say that's just your perception and you're entitled to it but you should accept that fish is the future and that's good. You begin to say something but I stab you in the eye with a fork and run into the kitchen.

lol nuff said had 2 units of town watch in that castle

From what i've seen any relations with a faction varying between so-so and abysmal and they may attack you, especially if most of your army is away, try to aim for good or perfect. The French may have a strong alliance with the Moors, i do not think they care that they are Muslim.
uh.but the whole idea is to wipe out the heathens... Ive seen reasonable relations before. I'm trying to get the French on my side so i don't have to worry about my rear being attacked while i crush the moors.

In my experience relations definately have an impact. You have half you army away? Well unless they like you then of course there is a good chance they will attack.

France allies with moors? Obviously to surround you. Many players do the same, when the AI is intelligent it's a good way of keep them in check.

However, I guess there is a chance you may excommunicate by Pope if you are too close to Muslims. I remember one time the French got it because they cut off our allies when I attacked Moors.

wow i didnt know that could happen.. I though it was only for attacking other catholics. Makes perfect sense to me they are sleeping with the enemy. Now i just have to bait the French into attacking me!

Relations doesn't seem to stop the AI from doing what it wants. As Spain I had 'outstanding' reputation with France, an alliance, and two marriage alliances yet 40 years later they declared war and even worst they were already at war with both England, Portugal, and Egypt at the same time.

Well, i don't know what CA did to the diplomacy. But i'm getting backstabed every time i make an alliance. I was at 'Perfect' relation with France, then i decided to attack an army that was sieging their last castle, and what i get ? Relations Worsened with them.

You mean, i leave my last fortress on France with a low garrison, to help them defend their last settlement against a full stack of dannish soldiers. All they had was their king and a militia unit. And a few turns later they backstab me.

That's just.. plain stupid. I know it has to do with marching on a allie land without permission but.. You don't need to be THAT smart to see that this is broken.

thats quite odd.. im playing as the HRE on medium campaign difficulty, and i have multiple alliances, 5 in total, and venice was the only one to ever betray me. it might be because i am so strong that others dont betray me, but my standing with the pope is at 3. who knows, but i want a patch to fix stupid charges.

The diplomacy AI is probally set up so the AI is less friendly/trustworthy. There's settings that a couple of people are playing around with, might be able to make it so an alliances are more consistent.
