Default [Fixed] Names refuse to apply to new units, yet changing existing units' names works

I've created two new units by cloning the Dalmatae and Schola Palatina. Respectively their land_unit key and main_unit unit is _FOTE_rom_cavalry_melee_t2_auxilia or _FOTE_rom_cavalry_melee_t5_palatina.

I have assigned them the proper unit_variant entry. So for instance the t2_auxilia have this entry under their name FOTE_rom_cavalry_melee_t2_auxilia. Then in my .loc unit name file (which clearly works as it has changed vanilla units' names) I have the entry land_units_onscreen_name_FOTE_rom_cavalry_melee_t2_auxilia giving the name of equites alae.

I boot up the game and it just gives me a big blank box when I scroll over the unit, where it should give me their name.

It's not a case of having to extract the loc. I downloaded AUM's extra units mod and his custom guys have their names.

Everything else seems solid. It uses the right unit icons. It uses the right variant mesh definition ingame, it uses the right stats. Everything is working. Except the name. But as far as I can remember I did everything I had to for names back in Rome 2. Anyone know what's going wrong?

EDIT: True to the rule of "I post on TWC with a problem and figure out how to fix it in the next 5 minutes", I managed to remedy it. I removed the underscore at the front of the key/unit name, even though that worked in the past. That or something else I did (deleting and re-entering the names) got it to work.
