weired crashes

First, I did a search, but it didn't turn up that specific problem, which doesn't seem to be all too uncommon, judging by a thread in the official board. Anyhow, there hasn't been any solution offered, so here goes:

Off an on the game crashes. There's a ping sound in the background, the screen turns black and after a few seconds, it's back to desktop, without any message. This can happen when clicking on a town, a character or during battles (most annoyin, when you're just winning and about to end it all, the game ends it all). It seems to happen more often in the later years, when more characters are on the map, but I can't say that for sure.

My specs:

Core Duo 6600
Asus P5B
2 Gigs of DDR 2
Geforce 8800 GTS - latest official drivers.

Any hints as to what may be the reasons of that would be much appreciated. I love the series and love the new battle graphics, but it's unplayable that way.

They are identical.

I have the same system specs as you and the exact same thing happens to me during battles. Campaign map runs fine though. Does anyone know of a fix for it? Thanks.

Hello there,

I get the same problem - but only during sieges. It used to happen occassionally, usually near the end of the battle (when I was winning, usually), but has now got so that I can't even deploy before it goes 'ping'.

There is a message that comes up, but it is obscured and I can't read it. I think it is a standard windows message box, which starts "Medieval .....", but it is only about 1-line long. Medieval then evaporates as if it has never been. This can happen at any city, it seems, but only during sieges. The game year is 1562.

I've almost got a hegemony with the Hungarians and it's just getting interesting with the Timurids and Mongols - I want to continue this campaign!

My spec is:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual
Core Processor 4200+
2.21 GHz
1GB RAM

Can you post your system.log.txt (If using Vanilla M2TW it should be in the M2TW folder or possibly M2TW\Logs\ folder).

This happens to me too, i just got the game last week and have been playing it constantly for a week up to 10 hours a day and had no problems. But now i'm stuck at a point in the game where i HAVE to fight a Timurid army, but everytime i go to the battle map i get to start the battle then it crashes to the desktop.
There is a microsoft error noise
Screen goes black
Mouse is of Medieval 2 hour glass
Then desktop appears with NO error message

Someone help me! i want to keep playing

(i could just automatically do battles but this battle is huge)

From what I have read, Timurids on battle map are bugged in 1.0. I don't know if they got fixed in 1.2.
