Default King Can't find a bride!

    Hi,
I remember it was a known issue in previous builds but thought the latest patch had resolved it...
My 21 year old Shahanshah can't find a worthy bride, he had no negative trait but plenty of positive ones too...
Turns pass one by one and he loses a lot of influence trying to find a bride but fails each time.
He's quite good looking and has a vast empire as well, It doesn't make any sense to me, I thought chicks really digged guys like that.

Yes but this is about marriage. Back then royal marriages were political. Monarchs felt threatened if an important noble married a potential rival for the throne.

the monarch himself can't find a wife!
turn after turn he gets rejected by his subject chicks!
he has a lot of money and even more land, i don't see how things might had worked back then, chicks really dig these things these days, money and power.

Have you tried diplomacy for an arranged marriage? The option only shows up if the faction in question happens to have an available candidate; so if you look and don't see it available, check back in a few turns.

I think there are "invisible characters" among the Other Nobles; specifically, doesn't display their wives/daughters at all, nor can you see boys younger than 18. But they're there (opposition wives' influence is probably the main reason that the overall balance doesn't match the character influence one sees).

So when a marriage attempt doesn't work, I think it's probably because there simply isn't an age-eligible unmarried woman among the opposition. And there's no way to know that before spending the influence, which is rather annoying.

could be a possibility, but there's no way of proving this theory about picking wives from invisible characters.

It seems hard-coded in Attila: rulers cannot find "internal brides". Diplomacy appears to be the only option.
seems like it, but it's most annoying when there's no proper single chicks amongst your allies and satraps either. some 57 years old widow and a 30 years old unfaithful ... no thank you very much...

Yep, I know, which is why I used qualifying terms like "I think" and "probably".

Slaists brings up a good point about FL's only being able to get married via diplomatic marriage. But I guess there's no way to prove that either (although 25 tries in one campaign seems pretty compelling evidence).

It could be a bug, about FL's. Otherwise, why just not disable that button for FL's if, by design, they're not supposed to look for local wives. Could be lazy programming as well, LOL; like Huns getting traits and skills that help happiness in their own provinces. What provinces?

There was another thread about this where I said I thought it was realistic. Since then, I`ve changed my mind. Pretty much any woman would marry a King if given the option, so Kings, no matter how old should find a wife relatively easily. As long as he hasn`t killed 5 or 6 wives previously!

I also have a leader who can`t find a wife, and it doesn`t make sense.

True. That sounds like a bug.
I think I did have the AI offering a daughter to my king once. I rejected the offer and tried to find a wife among members of my faction, but failed.

Hint: Attila in my campaign could not find a bride 25 times in a row... it was an "this is total war campaign" and diplo marriages were not an option.

A way around it is to make sure the future ruler is married before taking the throne.

Can confirm. Faramund starts out unmarried and can only take another faction's wife. Speaking of which, I spotted something- in one of the mission objectives they call him Pharamond. Has to be a historical reference.

Sure? I can only find 2 other wifes, one 44 years old and one which starts out with very bad traits (and I don't even think these factions want to mary them off)

I've encountered this many many times and I've never been able to find the cause of it. Highly frustrating. There should definitely be automatically spawning wives, otherwise there is the risk that families become male dominated and die out, which has happened to me on a few occasions. Wives were always available back then. If a king wanted to make some legitimate sons, he could easily make that happen.

I fear maybe until CA fixes this problem, my Shahanshah's "thing" might stop working.
Same old question raises again, "would you lose it, if you don't use it?"

Yeah, I've had this happen to me in my ERE campaign on hard

You start out with 2 males. My heir got married but after she died, no matter what i tried, he couldn't find a wife again. The king got married but every child he had died by age of 5 or less. It was extremely frustrating. I thought, HEY arrange marriage might work, but for some reason, not even my vassal states were accepting anything even with a large sum. I thought it was so weird. Anyways, i managed to finish to cultural victory and he was still alive at age 69 or something. I never did try to get the divine victory but I figured he will die soon so I just adopted a bunch of generals ;D

it's around turn 95 for me, having 45 puppet states for about 50 turns (the entire map)... but just since i have no son, i can see how my empire is going to get into a crisis when the Shah dies, all they give birth to are girls (7-8 of them) which like you said half of them die before the age of 5-6...
this seriously needs to be looked into

Yep, adoption is the other way out...and a pretty reasonable one, at least for the Romans, from a historical perspective.

Currently going for a Cultural on ERE as well, and am cautiously optimistic that Arcadius will live to see it; he's currently in his late 40's...if he can just make it to 60. Which obtw, brings to mind this: Characters do live many more turns than in R2 GC because of 4tpy...but I've noticed they generally don't grow quite as old now. In R2 I didn't start expecting death by natural causes until approaching 70, and it wasn't that rare to have the occasional octogenarian. In Attila, though, average life expectancy seems to be somewhere in the mid/late 50s.

Am also probably not going to try for the Divine Triumph, primarily because of the "destroy/subjugate 40 factions" requirement. I just don't think there will be enough potential enemies to do so; factions don't seem to regenerate like they did in R2.

Has anybody tried arranging marriages? You might be able to get a wife that way. I find it easy to do with factions you have good relations with.

Otherwise, this'll be your faction leader:
