Default What's the evilest thing you've done in Attila:TW?

In one day of power-gaming I won the minor victory with the Ebdanians. I now can honestly say I've crossed the gray area of ruthlessness I went too far with in Britannia:Kingdoms as the Irish, and have become evil.
My king's wife is a Hunnic noblewoman. The Alamans were attacking my military ally of Gaul for several years, until I finally interceded and took their territory in Liguria, despite a non-aggression pact. I'm on the verge of getting peace with what remains of the WRE. The Huns are my military allies with Attila as King, and my enemies territory will soon be nothing but wastes. Great power will never be enough of a modifier to take the Hunnic support away from me, as I'm at 300 or so right now, and have a ton of income. I'm now wondering if I continue this whether the children will be Caucasian or Asiatic models. Thrilling stuff.

Evilest? Probably setting up a tributary state just to get income for 10 turns and levy a couple units from it, then cancelling the tributary state and razing it to the ground. Thanks for all the Comintensis Spears, and hope you enjoy the salt I sowed on your destroyed settlement!

Funniest thing? Probably when I sent my Geats southward on turn 1, found the WRE trade-route at Genoa just north of Italia, and raided it for 20 turns, making something like 2,000 per turn while also building up diplo points with all the factions who hate Rome. It's the most brokenly over-powered campaign strategy: find the main commercial artery for the WRE as soon as possible, and raid it for massive income and diplo boosts. As long as you start as a faction who isn't at war with the WRE, you can do this to basically bring down the difficulty level a notch. Now, I wouldn't exactly call this evil, as it is sort of an intended mechanic for any barbarians who have a raiding boost (as the Norse tribes do), but it's hilarious in how effective it is because you get an additional diplo boost that is just too much, honestly. Trespassing diplo boosts should not stack with raiding diplo boosts... the raiding boost should supersede the trespassing boost you get with factions that hate who you are raiding. Otherwise, it stacks too much and you end up with alliances that should be much tougher to get. But the huge income I'm okay with, since I still have to find that trade-route and commit an army to raid it.

Sent a single "more influential than the ruler" noblemen to "talk peace" with four angry stacks of Saxons.

My faction leader's first born was a bastard. The second in line was of pure blood, but was too young to be appointed the heir manually. My faction leader was very old and likely to die soon, so to prevent that a bastard will sit on the throne I sent him alone to Britannia and declared war on the Ebdani, Caledonians and Picts. One turn later I had a 9 years old heir.

As Geats, was in the process of taking over Britain. I intended to keep the land, so loot/occupied (in a couple of cases, merely occupied) in Britannia Superior/Inferior. By the time I was ready to move into Caledonia et Hibernia, however, sick of the Caledonians and Picts, I just burned everything down out of spite, even though I did intend to eventually take that land as well. Razing was not the "smart" play because I wanted the land, but did it anyway because I wanted to kill/evict every last Celt in Britain.

One thing I did learn from that, though. I thought that razing a region essentially removed most of the population by killing a lot of them and forcing the remainder to migrate elsewhere, and that resettlement meant moving into an empty waste. Therefore, I expected to start with a blank slate as far as religion was concerned. Nope, apparently the burnt trees and rocks retained a staunch Celtic Paganism of their own....

I castrated a man to secure his loyalty

I really don't know how that works, but all the same I felt bad castrating a made-up character in a game. Was shifting around awkwardly in my seat after that and felt guilty whenever I saw his portrait in the family tree.

I think the idea is that the character so traumatized by the experience, and suffers such severe trait penalties, that he's neutralized politically, and has no choice but to toe the party line. He probably hates you more deeply than before, but has no other option than loyal service in order to preserve whatever position/wealth remain to him.

As a practical matter, these guys occasionally remain viable as governors in some situations (like, you have no others available, and "bad governor" is better than "no governor"), but blinded/castrated characters are pretty much worthless as generals.

With the case of the Night's Watch's old man, the Targaryeon, I think it's resignation to your fate with blinding. The character needs help and is in no position to take revenge. I promoted and married the guy who one of my characters had to blind to clan chief.

prolly gifting Virunum to the vandals right before I attacked the suebi, then destroying their allies and subjugating the vandals at MY settlement.
