    Default Emperor Edition or Atilla

I used to love Rome 1 and i am a massive fan of the time period but all i see in negative reviews about the game so many people waited for, for so many years

My question to you all is Attila better than Emperor edition have the issues been sorted be CA ? do the AI have a brain are the battles improved ect witch would you buy from steam

as far as i am concerned Shougan 2 was the best all round release so far is Atilla any where near that level ?

It depends what do you want. Attila is definitely penance from CA to hardcore fans as it adds lot of asked features back and build upon Rome 2. Rome 2 on other hand is not bad anymore and it is already probably finish in terms of patchs and dlc /and already got some solid mods like DEI). Attila is still waiting for 3 other dlc and maybe one or two patch max. So I guess it comes down to price and your preference of time period.

Time period is for me is Rome II mate i just hear that the game is really bad i was just wondering if it had been sorted out with the emperor edition like do the AI actually have a brain on them? and is it worth playing now as i hear some people say that even the emperor edition is no good

The game is not 'really bad'. That is a subjective term and down to personal taste. Today I played Empire vanilla as Poland and then played as the Franks in Rome 2 with the Constantine Rise of Christianity mod and a few other mods.

In relative terms Empire is the TW game in the entire series that is in the worst state. I very rarely play it without mods. Empire could also do with a family tree as Attila has. It could also do with another patch. Rome 2 is in a much better shape than Empire is.

The best thing is I really enjoyed both games regardless. I like Napoleon and appreciate how more polished it is compared to Empire. Yes I'm sure I will enjoy Atilla when I do eventually get it as well.

So I think the moral of the story is to get both

rome 2 is too streamlined. Too easy. If you like to shut off your brain during grand campaign, I would say, give it a go. The first campaign might be fun but battle AI becomes boring after like 3-5 matches and campaign AI leaves a lot left to be desired which counts especially for allies.

I only play Rome2 so that I can play with greek hoplites and would have left this forum a long time ago if there was competition... That being said, I played about 500 hours of rome2, make of it what you will...

    Both.

Really, both. They have different flavours, different options, different timescales - play both because they're both quality.

    Neither?

Advice: Save your money or spend it in a Paradox game like CK2 or EUIV. Those games have real depth.

also Total War games are the only ones you will ever get to control armies like this. Both Rome 2 and Attila are good although different because of the eras

Buy Attila, apply the Mod Ancient Empires (when released) and BOOM. You now have a much improved Rome 2. Like I said, he's one of the lucky ones. There will only be a matter of time when all of the mods of Rome 2 will probably be ported to Attila, so there's less meaning on buying Rome 2 at this point.

As far as I'm concerned, the arguments for Rome II are more content (partly due to DLCs), longer battles and the presence of a Greek culture. The arguments for Attila are more gameplay features (family tree, migration...) and a better challenge. The graphic style is different, too. As of today I'd personally give an edge to Rome II, but it might change once Attila gets additionnal campaign maps.

At any rate, mods can essentially turn either into a different game, so even a point-by-point comparison doesn't necessarily mean much.

I will be getting Attila on my birthday. A sad gift to myself.

I enjoy every Total War game, but I stay because of the modders.

I agree with Leandros, both are fun and different games, despite the similarities.

Since EE came out im quite enjoying rome2. Depends which faction you choose though. Some factions are still too easy to be enjoyable in a longer campaign (unless you really like their rosters or are against a huge alliance of several factions so the mid and lategame get quite challenging). Other factions are freaking hard on higher difficulties...epirus or the odryssians for example.

But overall i would say that you pick up attila first and rome2 with a big sale (>60%). Atm i enjoy the battles more in rome2 (units are lasting longer and the moral system is better) but the campaign is deeper in attila (there are still some imbalances or bugs though).
