    Default African Christianity?

Just wondering if you think it should be in the game?

The Axumite Kingdom addopted christianity as it`s state religion under king Aizan, who ruled the Axumite kingdom from 320 to 360 AD and was baptised by a Syrian Greek who is today considered a saint in the Etheopian Church. This region had a large christian population prior to that and it`s brand of christianity, that is today known as the "Etheopian Orthodox Church" is in it`s traditions and practices uniquely African and possibly even one of the oldest churches in the world. Axum was probably the mightiest regional power with control over Hormus and frequently trying to gain control over the streights by repeatedly attempting to conquere what is modern day Yemen. So I would say it is significant enought to be made a playable faction in the future and therefor also significant enought to receive it`s own religion, especialy since it would be historicaly more accurate to the "smaller relgions" that they have right now.

If Axum becomes a playable faction, then it would make sense for them to have their own religion. But until then, Axum is just another generic North African/Arab faction.

I think a North Africa/Arab DLC is within the real of possibility.

I recall someone asking CA not to forget Axum before the game was even released and someone at CA stated they will not forget. So expect an overhaul/DLC soon. Axum would not only require new units and skins, but new faction leaders, religion and if CA is feeling good, a new architecture set for it's cities since it's different from the current Sassanid eastern ones. The religion in game should not be called 'African Christianity' but perhaps 'Ethiopian Christianity', the same way they have Latin, Greek and Arian sects in the game.

An East African pack would probably include, Axum, Nobatia and even the Blemmyes (new faction) who should be under the nomadic faction category.

    Ha, that was me

However, there was no unique Ethiopian Orthodox Church until 1959 so i think it would make sense to include Coptic as a religion, so not only Aksum has it but also whole Egypt and to a small extend Nubia.

If CA does it shouldnt forget though that in 395 only the Aksumite nobility was converted to Christianity, while the rural population was still sticked in Greek-Sabaen paganism. Mass conversions happened only in the 6. century.

Ethiopian christianity was totally under influnce of Eastern Orthodox\Coptic Christianity. Also was under the Coptic church until 1959. I think should be added as coptic faith, so other than ethiopia you can made more interesting also the game as eastern roman empire.

I see no problem with referring to the Orthodox Ethiopians as followers of "Greek Christianity" in the game. Their traditions ultimately stem from the Coptic Church, which in the game is also depicted as Greek Christianity so...yeah.

On a related topic, has anyone noticed how weird of a province Ethiopia is in game? ZERO fertility (despite being in the Nile Valley) and you cannot convert the people there from "Minor Religions." Also, as I was conquering one of the cities in that region on the battle map I saw some weird ass looking for want of a better word "Temple of Death" that was full of dead bodies.

I think Darios it could be Shrine of the Dark Cult as discussed here:

    Oh yes that's it!

I had a very funny MP campaign with a friend of mine. He played as the Danes and I played as the Jutes. We both became hordes, migrated to Italy, sacked a few cities (and became Latin Christians) there, then made our way to the Nile where he conquered Egypt and I conquered Ethiopia. As soon as I saw that heathen temple I dismantled it and set up a Latin Church but the religious sentiment of the people never changes in that particular province.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Of course, you can imagine how the rest of the story went. The Sassanids and Pals soon declared war and wiped us into oblivion.

It is just a variation of the Eastern (Greek Orthodox) Christians imho, as East Africa was influenced/shaped by Syrian and Egyptian missionaries.
No need to have an own "national" christian cult for each single faction.

Plus it would make the game probably too complicated. Same reason why there was no separated English, Danish, Prussian Protestant churches or Russian, Greek, Serbian and Georgian Orthodox churches in Empire:TW)
