    Default Campaign crashes

    My campaign keeps crashing and I can't do anything about it.
    The system log says:
    16:00:55.572 [system.rpt] [always] CPU: SSE2
    16:00:55.573 [system.rpt] [always] ==== system log start, build date: Sep 5 2014 version development ===
    16:00:55.593 [system.io] [always] mounted pack packs/data_0.pack
    16:00:55.594 [system.io] [always] mounted pack packs/data_1.pack
    16:00:55.595 [system.io] [always] mounted pack packs/data_2.pack
    16:00:55.597 [system.io] [always] mounted pack packs/data_3.pack
    16:00:55.598 [system.io] [always] mounted pack packs/data_4.pack
    16:00:55.599 [system.io] [always] mounted pack packs/localized.pack
    Can anyone help me out?

    Did you run the SS_setup.exe before starting the campaign?
    If the answer is yes, please provide all the necessary information as it is described here . Also, make this change in your default.cfg and attach the whole system.log.

    I can't find the system log. I have the option on to autoLocateLogFile but it doesn't appear anywhere. I've typed it in but still nothing.

    It is named "system.log.txt". Usually it is in the folder that the data folder of Stainless Steel is installed and where default.cfg is placed too. If you can't find it there, then check in the default.cfg file for an entry like this one:
    Code:
    [log]
    to=../../GAMES/Stainless Steel 6.4/system.log.txt
    This line above indicates which and where is the log file. I'm sure you have such file, it is the same as the one from which you copied for your original post.

    I looked at where the it says where the system log should be but when I go there, its not there.
    I don't know if it has something to do with changing the name of the folder to "americas" even though I have set it up to still send the system log to that folder.

    This is what is put down
    mod=mods\americas
    [log]
    to=mods\americas/system.log.txt

    In your OP, you said:

    This is exactly the file I am referring to. Since you found it then, you can found it again. With the change I suggested for your cfg file, the log report would be several thousands lines and it will include more information about what was going on when the CTD takes place. Similarly, we need the information that is required in the "How to report a bug" thread.

    Couldnīt find the answer in this thread. Further question: Did the campaign/mod ever work for You? Have You followed the installation instructions? Especially for steam?

    When did You do this change to the cfg file? I mean the system log sometimes refers to the normal SS 6.3 folder and sometimes to the americas folder. e.g. the campaign_script of the americas folder right before the game ctdīs.

    Normally it looks like this:

    [features]
    mod=mods/SS6.3
    [log]
    to=mods/SS6.3/system.log.txt

    I mean SS6.3 seems to be a reasonable name for a Stainless Steel modfolder - why to rename it to americas? If thereīs already a folder containing a Vanilla kingdoms campaign? Donīt know if this if the cause for Your crashes - but could be. Would suggest to re-rename the folder and rerun the setup.exe. Perhaps better reinstall StSt. Probably have a look to steam problems - as Your installation seems to use that folder. There are some installation-instructions, tips and hints above.

    The change in the system log isn't the cause because the mod has been crashing months ago while I just changed the system log a few days ago.
    I also followed the instructions on installing the mod.

    Sure - the system log could be put into any folder - but You also changed the mod-folder of StSt to americas. At least in the cfg file. "mod=mods\americas" not "mod=mods/SS6.3". As far as i understood You also changed the name of Your SS6.3 installation folder to americas - perhaps i misunderstood it.

    Hmm - if the installation is ok i guess iīm out. Sorry. gsthoed? Your turn.

    I don't see any campaign crash. It seems to me that the game crashes before the campaign starts, due to bad installation, corrupted download or (most probably) he applied a bad fix or no fix for the infamous "Steam update" (as far as I'm concerned, Melooo182's fix in the relevant stickied thread on the main StSt forum solves this issue). Since higuy97 denies to give the information he had been asked both by the stickies and by me in post #2, I can't say anything more.

    Ok - just because iīm sometimes very patient:

    gsthoed asked a few times to give some more information - he gave links what those informations could be. You donīt give these informations - but itīs obvious that the more information we have the better Your help would be. If You are ill and go to a doctor itīs possible but would work better if Your describe Your problem the detailed as possible way instead of just saying that You are ill. Same with e.g. if Your car needs some repair - the mechanic will ask You questions and if You donīt answer he could help You - but in that case the bill probably will get bigger, because it takes more time to find the cause of the problem if itīs not something really obvious. ATM we both - gsthoed and i - think that Your installation seems to be bad. I have not the experience with steam because i donīt use it. But like gsthoed said: Most probably You havenīt installed Melooo182īs fix for the new steam version avaible in the sticky threads of the StSt main-forum. Better would have been if You e.g. said that You either installed or not installed that fix - and perhaps try to give some more information. You said StSt crashes - i guess wonīt start like gsthoed said too - since sometimes around the 5th Sept. 2014. "A few month ago" like You said. Thatīs the date of Your latest patch - via steam. My version is something around 2008 - without steam. I havenīt bothered with steam and related problems - but perhaps it would be a good idea to verify if You have installed this fix for the latest steam version. Getting help works much better if the one who would like to be helped - You in this case - help the possible helpers - in this case gsthoed and me (probably more helpers, but most pass if someone opens a thread like this instead of giving all relevant information right away like it should be and is advised in the stickies "how to report bugs" e.g.) - the best way You are able to. In the end something that shouldnīt be talked or written about, because itīs obvious that a problem could be solved easiest and fastest if the description is as detailed as possible. "My campaign crashes please help me" - the idea is ok - thatīs why this forum is here - but i guess You also understand thatīs a bit too generic. I also guess You know that everyone here who offers help does it in their freetime. And i guess You also understand that it could be a bit time consumpting to ask the same questions over and over again just to get the informations needed to solve someone elses problem. Sometimes a dialogue is nice and gets problems solved - but "dialogue" means that there are more than one people involved and there are also answers to questions - especially if those questions/suggestions arenīt really hard to answer - and more important: could be somehow useful to solve Your problem. You donīt give those informations for me or gsthoed or someone else - itīs to solve Your own problem - and if You donīt think itīs worth it why should anyone else bother with Your problem?

    Greetings

    Sorry for my stupidity. I didn't realize you still needed more information so, if you were getting really angry (Fred Putz) I am sorry.

    1. Operating system- It is an Windows 8.1 but I disabled the UAC.
    2. Kingdoms version- Since its on steam and I have got it on auto update, it should be 1.5
    3. Stainless Steel version- Its 6.4 and the campaign was created in that version.
    4. Submods- I have two other sub mods which run fine. They are:

    • Third age total war
    • Falcom Total War 3 : The Total Conquest

    You already know the problem and you have already seen the system lo.

    I tried to see which faction is causing this crash but it crashes as soon as I start a fight or click on end turn. It might be whatever fraction has there first turn in my campaign, but I'm just guessing that.

    If that is what you wanted, I'm sorry I was being a moron.

    Extra post
    The following fractions are dead so it can't be these guys:
    1. Scotland
    2. Kingdom of France
    3. Crown of Argon
    4. Kingdom of Portugal
    5. Turks
    6. Cuman Khanante
    7. Crusader States

    They do leave agents behind for some reason, but I don't think they are cause because they don't do anything since they don't appear on the turn page (I know this because is has been happening way before the crash I have now).

    Iīm not angry - just couldnīt understand why You seemed not to read the posts. Those two posts of You are really something to work with - thatīs great. Small but: gsthoed already mentioned Meloooīs fix - more or less. Just had a look at it for myself a few minutes ago. The described problems sound like Yours - saves donīt work and battles wonīt start. Did You have had a look at it? A Link for the lazy ones. Thereīs also mentioned a "bad workaround" with the e.g. americas campaign - didnīt know about it - but in this case i can understand why You renamed the modfolder. Perhaps just have a look - if Youīve not already renamed that file.

    As you are using Windows 8.1 SS needs to be installed outside of Program Files this is because the UAC cannot be disabled like with Windows 7. As long as MTW2 and SS are installed in same drive, it should work

    I followed what melooo182's guide but it didn't work. I also tried installing it it the same drive like what Joe said but still nothing.
    I've tried but still nothing. However, the loading screens seem to disappear when loading into the screens. I've re-installed twice and both times the loading screens have glitched and the game has crashed still.

    Oh dear, I would suggest deleting SS from your PC, do a registry clean, file cleanup and then defrag. Please re download 6.3, 6.4, and Bugfix and install them to a folder outside of Program Files, many folks use the Games Folder. When you install, right click and Run as Admin always. This is going to take a long time, all very frustrating I know, but its the only way to make it work. When you have installed 6.3, run it, end a turn, check it works, then do that with each part thereafter.

    As you are using Steam, open hidden files, key 'hidden file' in MS search field at bottom left, there is a file called 'App Data', anything in there to do with SS, make sure you delete, you will need to check the MTW2 folder, every folder that if there are SS Files.

    Best of luck
