Default Huns getting help from scripts?

as the WRE I have everything from Spain to Lithuania and I have the Huns on the run. Just about everyone has allied with me against them and they're spread out all over the caspian and the Caucasus. I go to the diplomacy tab. it says they have a 27 strength rating, which means there are a lot of factions stronger than them. good. that means I've almost wiped them out. I end turn and suddenly several stacks begin attacking random positions (thought nothing of it since the huns are so spread out everywhere, they've surely got some hiding that I didn't know about) I fight off those attacks tooth and nail, succeeding at two but losing one. Then I so happen to glance back at the diplomacy screen. Now they have a 5 strength rating. which means in the course of a turn they've gained an impossible amount of strength from nowhere. I began thinking about it, and that makes sense that the stacks which came out of nowhere. It seems to me the only logical conclusion is that there is a script that keeps you from wiping out the huns before Attila comes to power. (he came to power two turns later.)

Bleda is a problem for a long time before Attila becomes king. What year is it?

The Irony is that if Attila never came to power, the Huns would be invincible.

Yes, there is a script that creates more Hun hordes to keep them at certain number. So you are stuck with Huns coming back in ever increasing numbers until Attila's scripted death. Doubtless CA experimented with the Huns being a faction like other factions but found it didn't give them the campaign they wanted.

    Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!

Yeah they spawn 7 elite stacks until you've killed attila 4 times.

Killing a hun stack, a new one will respawn next turn.

Unsurprisingly in Total War: ATTILA there is a script to make sure you see Attila in your campaign.

They spawn every two turns at random positions in Germano-Sarmatia, Transcarpathia and Sarmatia Europaea. So if you own these, they will often be behind your lines, I have this problem too as WRE.

what happens if you somehow manage to wipe out all of their current stacks in a single turn? I came close to doing that in a campaign but didn't manage to get the last one in time

could very well be game over for the huns. damn, this could be a goal I will try for in my future campaign.

Doesn't work, the huns get a "temporary stack" for lack of a better word before each battle, to prevent them dying as a faction if that is indeed their last stack and its about to die.

Can it be modded that the check is not every two turns but for example every 8 turns? Plus the time they have to move to attack you, that would mean the Hunnic horde attacks in waves every 3 years. The longer time in between also means that you have enough time to replenish your stacks and be ready for the next way, so no "I won the battles but lost the war".

wow, so it was really dumb of me to actually try and expand as the Wre because the Huns keep spawning in that area even after you've wiped most of them out? If only had known. its really stupid now because when attila spawned he brought like 8 stacks with him in around petrovia, and now I have to rush back down to Dacia to face him while his armies go around sacking. Im at 421 AD otherwise Id just restart.

Did the patch change this all, though?

I started a new campaign with the Picts, and won in 431 AD without ever having seen a Hunnic army... and Attila claimed the Hunnic throne in a pop-up notification in 426 or so, but by 430 some other Hun was leading them.

Perhaps I just got lucky and some kind faction annihilated the stacks for me, but I was pushing eastward, and was getting substantially east of the Rhine, and still never saw any Huns. All I can think is that the ERE, which was still substantial at that point, might have been killing off the stacks.

But who knows. Only reason I'm curious is because I could have sworn they just made some changes to the AI concerning the Huns.
