Default Medieval 2 Disc Version Compatibility

    Hello!

I have a problem with Medieval 2 Total War. I own the disc version, and I have had some problems with it and windows 8.1 the last time I had it installed (my computer was reset so it was uninstalled).
Now I wonder should I install it again, since before my computer kept warning me about compatibility errors last time (with my graphics card for example), and the disc made a funny sound when running.
So I don't know should I just buy it from steam to fix these problems, and would there be any compatibility errors with the steam version.

Any help would be appreciated! And sorry if this was posted in the wrong place.

If you have a valid disc and CD key, you do not need to buy it off Steam to run it on Steam. Steam should automatically update the disc version you have as well. Basically as long as you have a valid CD key you should be all set to go.

Speaking from personal experience, disk version of M2TW doesnt have any issues with Windows 8.1. Doesnt need any compatibility settings applied.

Also like the above poster said you can activate it on steam just using your cd key.

Thank you both for answering !
So I'll just install the game and then add it in steam using the CD-key? And that should automatically download the patches (if there are any I don't have yet)?
I'll try it out later today, hope it'll work!

Oh and could you point me out to a tutorial/guide on how to use the CD-key to activate the game in steam?
Also, when you activate it, is it necessary to have the disc inside anymore?

Any response to these questions would be much appreciated

Actually, never mind, I found out by myself. The game is working!
