Icon5 Hunnic Horse Unit With Lassos

Watching a documentary, decent, not too ''hollywoody'' and full of b.s and opinions ''experts'' with information they have pulled out their arsenals, one thing that caught my attention was the mention of the Huns using lassos (cowboy style, yeeehaw) to capture an enemy on horseback or on foot, breaking their neck instantly with the rope and choke.

Anyone come across this or anything similar before? Was the first I had heard of it, Or should this go in the b.s folder?

Would be a cool unit though, historically accurate or not.

    That wont happen.

You would need a better physics engine with ragdoll and significantly better unit colision.

I would bet that draging a body weighing between 90-110 kilos, depending on armour, behind you in a lasso would create an impact that knocks the average soldier of his feet, similar to a wrecking ball.

So yeah, better collision and better physics would be needed.

Have you seen what non-animated collisions look like? When units spin and hover over the ground?

It looks very similar to this:

Herodotus did mention Scythian riders going to battle armed with nothing but lassos. So it's not fictional.

I also believe that such a thing is feasible in game, as long as CA is willing to make new animations (which is sadly quite unlikely). We have animation of elephant tossing men into the air, why not man dragged on the ground?

Lassos would require new animations. Way too much work for CA.

Not fictional. They did a number of creative things with ropes on horseback to defeat and confuse Roman armies. Just couldn't be implemented. I wanted to see something that slowed the advance of the enemy.

They managed to have grapple in older games, so I think its doable, just require some work and thinking.

It most likely the Romans used the foulkan formation to deal with Hunnic attacks. Primarily the Huns would've have rode up close where their hail of arrows would create the most damage (it seems the Huns were more game at this than others). At close range arrows can penetrate armor, but at distance they only a danger to unprotected flesh. The foulkan in good order is practically impervious to arrows, although enormously tiring for the soldiers. The Huns counter tactic was to try and lasso the shields pulling them away. This would create a weak point they could pummel with arrows demoralizing the foulkan, creating panic and reducing its effectiveness.

    Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!
