Suggestions for improving the Vikings.
In terms of content the Viking Forefathers DLC pales in comparision to the Longbeards DLC and Celts DLC. I own it because I pre orderd the game and I would really see no reason to buy it if I had not pre orderd Attila. In fact, if you compare the DLCs I would not be suprised if you would see the Viking DLC as a rip off in comparrision to the others.
Longbeards DLC adds:
- A unique saga that unfolds within the game and grants a special General with abilities and traits that you determine through decisions you make for the character in the saga.
- 29 new unique units divided amongs all 3 new playable factions.
- 6 new unique buildings divided amongs the 3 new playable factions.
Celds DLC adds:
- A unique saga that unfolds within the game and grants a special General with abilities and traits that you determine through decisions you make for the character in the saga.
- 20 new unique units divided amongst all 3 new playable factions.
- 2 new building chains for all Celtic factions
- A new prestige building mechanic
Viking Forefathers DLC adds:
- 11 new unique units divided amongst all 3 playable factions.
So the Viking Forefathers really lack in all aspects compared to what the other culture packs DLCs add to the game. I find the Longbeards and Celtic DLC to be very good and a massive step ahead of what were rather bland and uninspired faction DLCs in Rome 2. I would argue that these 2 faction DLCs for Attila are even better than the faction DLCs we received for Shogun 2 and would advise people who considere buying Attila DLCs to go ahead and buy both the Longbeards and Celts DLC. But I cant argue the same for the Viking forefathers. Looking through it, it honestly reminds me alot of how DLCs were made for Rome 2 and seems to be a Rome 2 relic to some extent. And that leaves a bad taste behind.
So the Viking Forefathers DLC needs to be improved and must have more content added to it! Either that or the price of it should be lowerd, since it doesnt even add half as much as the other Faction DLCs and the best product should set the price. In terms of content it, at best, adds a quarter of the content that the Celts DLC adds and should therefor at best cost a quarter of the price if it is not improved.
At least 10 more unique units, buildings unique to certain factions or unique building chains and a saga to follow through campaign would in my opinion do it.

Yep, I think the Danes&Geats need some love. Ok the Danes get a nice navy..but ok meh. And thrall spearman, seems a tad underwhelming and then ok you can march through the cold. Bit tame no?
Perhaps you can really use the Danish navy I havent tried but so far who needs a navy anyways..(well usefull when u are 100k in the bank).

That's what you get for buying a day 1 DLC
Don't preorder games!

Re: Suggestions for improving the Vikings.
Agreed 100% OP. The 'Viking' forefathers are definitely lacking in depth compared to the other DLC. I must admit now I'm hoping to see a Beowulf like character
an update to that DLC would be great but will it ever happen? I believe it would boost sales but that is just my opinion.

Re: Suggestions for improving the Vikings.
I bought Viking DLC because it cost me only 1 euro
I agree that in term of content, this DLC offers little. OTOH, I could say that playing as a Proto-Viking faction feels much greater than any other generic barbaric one, especially when you got access to axemen. So, I never regret my decision buying it.
I doubt that CA will lower the Viking DLC's cost (doesn't this decision lie with the distributor, not the developer?). But of course I would love if this DLC got some upgrade via patch. Patch 2 did add a few generals to Longbeards factions.

Yeah CA should make something to fix it...
