    Default Unit Tiers

Is there some kind of logic behind them or are they there for aesthetic reasons?

I mean all that matters is unit stats, mass, and weapon quality as far as I know.

Example, the Roman medium infantry unit "Exploratores", is listed as a tier 2 unit. But there is no tier 1 version of it, and it's upgraded version "Praeventatores" is still tier 2.

Same with Germanic Spearmen and their upgrade Germanic Spear Masters, they are both tier 2.

    What's the point?
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

Another attempt to make the game look more arcady thus more appealing to casual gamers !

I think they're roughly intended to show how far in the technology tree the units are.

The point is to show you at a quick glance, how effective that unit is in general. Problem is, some of the tier choices for certain units are questionable. Sarmatian Warband being Tier 1 (beating out most Roman Tier 2 infantry IIRC), some Tier 3 units that just aren't good whatsoever. It's a nice idea, but it just needs some tweaking.
