Fair enough. I was just under the impression that Post-Marian legionaries would have slightly better defense on average, given the standard use of iron chain mail armor by the 1st century BC. Principes in the current version of EB II wear almost no protective armor except for small, square-shaped bronze breastplates and a helmet.
@Midnite, if you have the time and inclination, I'd also like to make one small request in addition to the legions. You can choose to ignore this if you like, but if you're up to it, I'd also like to have you transfer a couple late Warring States era Chinese crossbowmen units, just forand giggles. In DBM those would be "Han_Mounted_Crossbow" and "Han_Medium_Crossbow," I believe. You could make these units hired mercenaries in the westernmost region of the campaign map, called "Xiyu," which is today's Xinjiang Province of China. Although Western-Han Chinese armies didn't even enter the region until the reign of Emperor Wu of Han (141 - 87 BC), that's okay to have a little anachronism for 272 BC, I think, at least for this unofficial sub-mod.
The DBM units are clearly labeled and described as Warring-States era crossbowmen from the State of Shu, I believe, so it is historical at least. Aside from archaeological evidence for crossbows from this era, the Han-dynasty Imperial Secretary Chao Cuo (200 - 154 BC) described their use even by cavalrymen, when contrasting their effectiveness with Xiongnu horse archers and their composite bows.

Seriously, how did you do this? It's so awesome! Cheers. I would rep you again for this, but I've done so too recently.
You should start a new thread for a sub-mod download when all is finished. That way everyone can come and pay homage by repping you. I'll inform everyone here about your glorious and grandiose work.
Is there a away to transfer unit cards from DBM? It's a minor point, but if it can be done it saves the effort of finding new UI unit cards for this new unit.
the unit icons ( as I call them) shown when you create an army in a custom battle scenario are stored in this folder - Medieval II Total War\mods\DBM\data\ui\unit_info\romani (roman units folder) in tga format
I have not tried it but I assume you can just copy them over to the EB2 mod.

If you release this as a sub-mod, would you be able to include that in the overall package? Surely it just takes some copying and pasting for those tga files.
I'm not exactly sure. I've only played the first Invasio Barbarorum mods like SAI (for Rome Total War). I'm waiting on IB Flagellum Dei II to come out. I haven't gotten a look at the units yet, although the mods released for IB II's North Africa and Britain campaigns look pretty cool. It was only a thought. If there's nothing that's compatible for the 3rd to 1st century BC, don't worry about it.

Hmm....Perhaps you should hold off on it for a little bit, until the EB team releases a new update for EB II, which is coming very soon judging by the fast-paced development showcased on their Twitter page. It would make more sense to have your sub-mod compatible with the new release, and not just v. 2.01.
Well midnite you can always do your submod and i will take care of it being compatible with future releases of EB II. The next major release is going to be release summer mid or late (maybe early too but many have exams then for example me) . Don't know if it is planned for example to release it again 25 august one year later after the first release. Just my thoughts.

Excellent! Are you going to release this soon or wait for the late September release of the new update for EB II so that it can be compatible for that? Are you still collaborating with team members here on that? I think most people, once the new version of EB II comes out a month from now, will be playing that instead of the old patch.![]()
Well if it will be release now it will be hard to update. I have the same problem when i try to update my modpack for example 2.04a three days later 2.04b is being released and now 2.04c. So after major update of eb ii it will be easier to update.

Cool! Thanks for getting back to me on that.![]()
I can upload what I have. The unit models and textures. (just copy the "data" folder over your current data folder) This will work with any of the patches. 2nd, I can upload the edu code for these units which can be patched into the end of the main edu file. 3rd, I can upload the modeldb code for these units which can then be patched into the main modeldb file. As for building ques, you will have to choose how the units will become available by adding them to the export_descr_buildings file.

It can work with the updated patch coming in September? Cool! If you share the links, I'll put them in the opening post of this thread.Or, alternatively, you can start your own thread here in the sub-mod forum for EB II. That would probably make more sense, since this is your sub-mod, not mine.

I look forward to having an option late Roman infantry after the September release. Thanks in advance.
