    Default Gaining experience

    Hey guys,

It seems to me that units in Attila not only gain experience slower than in other TW games. But I have the feeling they lose it due to replenishment. Can anyone confirm? In my Sassanid campaign I had an army that was around since day 1. They had fought in the Middle East, Turkey, Egypt and the Balkans. They won some massive victories and the army rank was nearly maxed out. Still most units had no more than 3 bronze chevrons. I know that you lose experience when you choose the take on warriors option but do you also lose exp. due to regular replenishment? You would think that my seasoned veterans would be a little more seasoned

You loose XP to regular replenishment just fine. The take on warriors option might enforce stricter penalties then usual, as its description suggests, but you'd have to poke into the game files to tell for sure.

So you want armies of veterans, take less casualties, I guess.

Champion levels them up in no time. Also, there are retainers, general's traits that help units level up faster (or start at a higher level).

The champions do help tremendously; I've had a few armies where most units reached gold chevrons. Even so, I do agree with OP; it does feel like units gain experience ranks a bit slower than in R2. I don't know if that's because of replenishment, or perhaps because the XP requirements are just larger in Attila? For example, maybe if it took a hypothetical 100 XP to rank up in R2, maybe now it requires 120 or 150, without a concomitant increase in the rate of earning experience?
