Default I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the Islamic Caliphate of Iraq and Syria (Warning, thread contains dangerous levels of stupidity)

A school in New York has been forced to make an apology after it instituted a modern languages initiative, during which pupils were made to recite the pledge of allegiance in a different world language every day. Things were going fine, until they reached... Arabic. There was a major outcry, with some of the finest specimens of 'Muricans coming out of the woodwork to condemn this obvious attempt to found a chapter of ISIS in the US. The outcry was not just limited to the usual idiots, who came out with such gems as:

'I have relatives who fought in Afghanistan, I find the use of Arabic [a language which is spoken by precisely nobody in Afghanistan as a native language] an attack on our military!

but also Jews taking offense, with people claiming it was offensive to make Jewish pupils use the language of Palestine [and 19 other countries which have it as an official language, including Israel].

I think this shows just how damaging the war on terror has been, and how seriously the American populace take Obama's protestations that 'this is not a war on Muslims, it's a war on religious extremists'. Its not like this was some kind of minor protest, an overwhelming angry mob forced the school to make a grovelling apology for this heinous crime and the move was supported by thousands of people. Arabic is now the language of the enemy in 'Murica, all 420 million speakers had better watch their backs.

A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

I would like to apologize on behalf of my fellow Americans. It never surprises me what comes out of the woodwork when Xenophobia comes into play. Heaven forbid we have kids raised to appreciate other cultures. The only ones who should be apologizing are the braniacs in the mob.

I had to witness a redneck guy curse out an Indian man working at a 7/11 telling him to go back to his country. Thankfully the store manager cursed him out on my behalf. The store manager told him he'd help these two customers then meet him outside. To no one's surprise the man was gone when the store manager went outside.

The level that my fellow Americans will stoop themselves to never surprises me anymore.

I think America needs a truth and reconciliation process on the War that made Terror, so that people actually can understand the damage it has done to its own society, let alone Iraq and Afghanistan.

They can't even point each country on the map, let alone know anything at all about local cultures, languages and all.
But yeah, who cares about reality when you have media brainwashing. Indeed they feel the right to complain about things they are utterly clueless about. Truly the greatest country on earth.

And where are you from? I'm sure wherever that is, it is void of any ignorant people. All are well-educated with excellent reasoning skills, no prejudices, and of course your country has probably made innumerable contributions to the advancement of science, literature, technology, etc.

They should also focus on who started that war and who benefited from it. Perhaps Americans should ask themselves why are there such institutions that follow their private individual interests at the expense of the whole nation, both politically and financially.

It's doubly ironic when you consider the fact that the pledge was written by a socialist ( ) at the turn of the century as a way of "Americanizing" immigrants via a mindless nationalistic ritual. Thus I would imagine it's been recited in many different languages and heavily accented varieties of English, including Arabic. The scariest part of all this is how easy it is to mobilize people with boogeymen and scare tactics, but when it comes to actual public policy, suddenly everyone's too busy to give a hoot.

....and I have to agree this probably doesn't need its own thread; at least not in the Mudpit.
Of these facts there cannot be any shadow of doubt: for instance, that civil society was renovated in every part by Christian institutions; that in the strength of that renewal the human race was lifted up to better things-nay, that it was brought back from death to life, and to so excellent a life that nothing more perfect had been known before, or will come to be known in the ages that have yet to be. - Pope Leo XIII

The only difference is that the ones in America get more publicity. Guess that's a drawback of the omnipresence of American culture and media these days.

It's not that they get more publicity, they advertise it themselves; they make a reality show about it: ''Hey look at how ing retarded we are, now give us a million dollar and and elect us as role model''.

I think he is Italian so if you count the Roman empire as part of that then it made many contributions PP

Even the Renaissance alone would make Italy stand out in any chart but that's hardly the point.

It's filled of idiots. However something I find tipically American is to celebrate stupidity and ignorance as role models or something to be proud of in the mainstream and without any shame.

It kinda did. But this isn't really a race. It's simply a criticism of a specific aspect of a culture.

Well you know something like 50% of all people are of below average intelligence, but where are you getting this observation though, the media or have you spent time in the US? One of the things that is particularly American, is displaying our idiots on TV and what not, so that everyone watching can feel superior. It's the Jerry Springer formula.

Lol. Jerry Springer formula...perfect. With such a huge percentage of the population being dumb, is it wise to continue upholding a democracy where everyone gets the vote, despite having so many dumb, ignorant, and uninformed voters? Should we just return to having an oligarchy, you guys?

This is just dripping with ignorance. You clearly don't know anything about the Americans or our culture if you think we celebrate stupidity and ignorance. And really, when you talk about the mainstream entertainment industry, if you're Italian, then that is just laughable. There is nothing laudable about Italian celebrities either. I guess as an American, I should take your culture at face value and see the multitude of television shows that objectify women beyond any level we've achieved here in the US and consider your entire culture one that celebrates shallow, chauvinistic, sexist rubbish. It's pure idiocy to do that. Just as it is for you to make absurd judgments about the US based on what you see on television.

It kinda did. But this isn't really a race. It's simply a criticism of a specific aspect of a culture.
A culture that you see via television, so in reality you see only certain aspects of it in the way it's presented to you. Again, I could be equally idiotic in how I perceive Italy based on what I've seen of your television shows or the encounters I've had with Italian tourists. That would be a really legitimate criticism don't you think?

We're simply more adept at monetizing stupidity than other cultures.

Let's face it...human beings just adore reminding themselves just how much smarter and more cosmopolitan they are when compared to their neighbor....this thread and your own statements are vibrant proof of that. There's a constant need to validate that we're at least smarter than those idiots....whoever those idiots happen to be in a given equation.

You did it for free (and with a side-helping of jingoism)....we've effectively monetized that need. Don't be jealous.
