Default Can a Faction offer to become MY Puppet State?

So, I'm at year 414, and I am playing as ERE. WRE has almost completely fallen, but I have been a good ally and propped him up, some, so that he's kept Africa and southern Italy. Now, WRE is offering "Create Puppet State" every turn, along with increasing amounts of money. I assume this means the AI wants me to become its puppet state and doesn't realize I'm the most powerful faction in the Mediterranean.

But am I mistaken? Is the weakened WRE offering to become -my- puppet state so it can get more help? I'm not sure! Could someone tell me? Do factions offer to become your puppet states?

I had this one, it's offering to become your puppet state (i.e. underneath you). I had a faction doing the same thing, confused the * out of me as I was the Sassanids.

Happened a few times in my Sassanid campaign. One time, a faction that had a puppet of its own offered to become my puppet. I inherited that faction's puppet, so I got two puppets at once.

I won my Sassanid campaign very suddently and unexpected through the ERE offering to become a client state for a price of 3 000 000.

Factions can indeed offer themselves as a puppet state to you. Had one as the ERE quite early on.

I think there`s a bug though cos when I accepted, the guy spoke as if `I` was the puppet, telling me how he`ll look after me. But on double checking he was the puppet.

The diplomatic price offers are related to total treasury, so it might be way lower than that for those who arent crazy rich.

I assume you're playing with the better campaign AI mod?

It happened in Rome 2 a lot more. So far the best I got was caled marrying my king, and I married into their family. It's turn 200 they still give me gifts, trade, defensive and military access

Macedon paid me 10000 for being my puppet then seceded and declared war on me when I joined the war against a faction attacking Egpyt who happen to be another puppet state that paid me money lol

    Hi Guys,

I play the Lombards. Is it possible to ask a nearby faction to become my puppet state in the beginning of the game? Everytime I try I see Low chances of diplomatic acceptance. Though I forged a trade alliance with them, non agression pact, military access, defensive alliance. How to "force" a faction to become a puppet state of my faction or how to increase chances of them accepting it? Maybe if I raid one of their ports or colonies a few times and retreat ? My faction a little more powerful than the factions I target, but maybe I need to wait more turns...

Yeah, I think that the judgement is made after a comparison of your relative economic and military strengths, in which case you would have to attack and weaken them. Im not sure if liking one another plays a part though. I know that in Empire, which had a much more convoluted system for assessing the likliehood of an enemy accepting client status, you had to destroy all of their military, ruin all of their campaign map holdings and then preferably have them about to lose the siege on their last province before they would accept.

If would be R2 that we were talking about, weakening them would work, but in Attila that option kinda doesnt work yet, hope they fix the broken diplomacy.

On my ERE campaign, I hadn't even hit turn 100, I am pretty powerful, havent actually taken much territory, just Italy and Ilyria, moving on to Africa. Randomly throughout these events the Sassanids (whom I have yet to go to war with yet) offered, slowly, trade agreements, defensive alliances, military alliances and then suddenly, and quite randomly, they offered to become my puppet state. For not even that much money, maybe a million gold or so. Upon accepting their offer I inherited all of their puppet states as well. I went from 1 puppet state to like 15 in 1 turn almost trippling my economic power. What is interesting is they have about 20 stacks just floating around in their territory, they have yet to fight any conflicts with any other states. So this series of diplomatic events was rather bizzare to me!

Get them to work then! You can remove/destroy/defeat just about any faction by proxy with the combined military power of the Sassanids and their puppet states.

@ like turn turn 10 Armenia offered to become my client state for no money. It made sense though as they were getting destroyed by the Sassanids. Very nice AI choice there. Was playing ERE.
