    Default Saxon Inheritors of Rome

I've been working on giving the Saxons the inheritors of Rome faction trait, but I've run into a few problems . The faction trait is working insofar as the garrisons are being provided and I am able to recruit the Roman units, however some of them are invisible! The tier 1 spear and archer units are visible, while the legio's and scout equites are invisible, although the horses themselves are displayed. Also only 1 bastion onager is being provided for tier I-IV of the Roman city chain. I've added Saxon unit permissions for all of the Roman units and looked through the rest of the tables to try to figure this out... but no luck so far

Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: seems that the single bastion onager also applies to the Ostrogoths, which is a bit of a bummer...

The bastion onagers you can actually change in building_levels_armed_citizenry_tables by adding more for each level, but a side effect is that all factions of that culture (Norse for Saxons, Germanic for Goths) will also benefit from the increased onagers.

What do you mean by the units being invisible though? You mean they're invisible in battle or on the unit cards? If it's battle, then possibly there need to be variant definitions added for those units when recruited by Saxons (but I don't know how this works, maybe I'm wrong).

I've also been looking into adding the "Inheritors of Rome" trait to other factions, so I'm interested to find this out too. I wish we could do something more interesting with that trait though... allow barbarians to incorporate more of the Roman infrastructure, that sort of thing. I thought about giving the Roman buildings significantly better bonuses (for example to sanitation and research rate) than barbarian ones, but then the building costs might have to be rebalanced. I could end up doing something like this for my building mod though.

Thanks for the reply and for providing the table, I've been scouring them looking for that modifier! I've since deleted the changes but i could easily enough put it all back together. The units themselves were invisible, but not all of them. For some reason the aux spear units were visible. AFAIK as long as the unit permissions are there the units should work properly. However there was a table (units_to_exclusive_faction_permissions_tables) that i couldn't access, so maybe that's where the problem is?

^ My thoughts exactly, surely these 'barbarians' would be more interesting in retaining and adapting the roman infrastructure. Rather than replace it with wooden walls and thatched roofs.

I've got the same problem, Cohors, Legio, Legio Comitatensis modded so that the Saxons can recruit and even upgrade them through modifying the tech tree.

Unfortunately not only are they invisible on the battlefield(as in no models. They can kill and move around just fine. in fact the little triangles are visible just not the actual model)

Maybe it does have something to do with meshes being available for the specific faction though I was able to modify the WRE into being able to recruit Steppe Levy and Hunnic Horse Archers just fine by dealing with the units_to_exclusive_faction_permissions_tables and building_units_allowed.

That was just fine, no problems at all. Dunno why this is giving an issue now...

Actually just doing a quick look now. I think I found it in the models pack.

Adding it to the mod pack doesnt seem to show anything though. Will report what, if anything, it does

Been tinkering still no luck solving my own problem OP which I suspect would help you. I would upload the modpack to see if anyone else can tell what file is missing but the forum says that my upload fail even though its well below the max size and its a .zip.

Hope you guys get this to work, that trait could be pretty awesome to work as a reward, I am actually hoping to see a resource mod like in Rome I forget who did it but it would be nice to have rewards for resources acquired also maybe add some resources.. what I am wondering is how to alter a table to work on a condition

Its very strange. Or we're just overlooking something. I've ported axe warbands to Ostrogoths, Armored Sagitari to Saxons, Sarmatian Warbands to Visigoths.

    No problems.

But the second I try to do anything with Cohors/Legio, basically any unit that has more than one mesh? It breaks.

Since ERE and WRE use the same units but with different meshes.

I have yet to figure out that mechanic and where it is pointing in order to make it work.

You need to assign your faction to the variant in the unit_variants table since there are multiple "versions" of the legio, etc... Got this to work for the Franks.

I am wondering how this has worked for you? When you mod this and alter the tables does it show in text that the Saxons now have this trait?

If anyone is still following this thread:

    Found the problem.

    unit_variants table.

If you're going to be using a unit that has two skins this is where you tell the game which skin to use for which faction.

ie. If you're giving cohors to att_fact_saxones , you need to define

    att_fact_saxones
    att_rom_cohors
    att_rom_cohors_west
    att_rom_cohors_west
    0.1 0.975
    att_rom_cohors_west

    Or att_rom_cohors_east as you like.

I'm looking to do exactly the same thing with the Visigoths. I've taken care of unit permissions, but I haven't found which db file holds the faction traits. Which one is it?
