Default New Patch Announced for Next Week!

    http://forums.totalwar.com/showthrea...-out-next-week

    Details: http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Tin_Isle_Mercenaries_Update

Looking through the patch notes, it seems very promising. Here are some highlights I found:

    - "General price balancing for units across the board"

    - New generals for the Longbeards factions

    - Gothic Warband and Nordic Axe Warband no longer upgrade into glass cannon falxmen/two handed axemen.

    - Can zoom out of the family tree (So many babies!)

    - Less razing by AI in the first 100 turns

    - Easier to trade with the AI

    - TAGMATA (and Germanic Horsemen) GOT PEW PEWED + Ton of other units getting balancing.

    - All Nomadic mounted archers got parthian shot

    - Uar warriors bonus vs infantry went from 20 to 10

    - Many Hun cavalry units appear to be buffed with their regular spears getting a heavy spear (the one that the Tagmata used to have)

    - Shock cav in general get a buff

    - Mercenary Onagers get a large increase to hiring and upkeep costs

    - Zerks getting a price drop and a HP increase

    - Spear units can withstand charges better and get "heavy spears" to fight cav.

All this sounds good, but the one I payed attention to the most was the less razing part. Hopefully this decreases the chance of the campaign map turning into a desolate wasteland.

-Campaign AI is now less likely to focus on razing provinces within the first 100 turns
-Great Power trait has been rebalanced
-Less chance for anti-empire Campaign AI personalities
These three along with upkeep rebalance sound promising.

I`m pleased that there`s less razing (dunno why it`s only for the 1st 100 turns).

I`m also pleased that you get see Celts even if you don`t get the add-on and you can even employ mercenary ones. that`s good, if true.
Also seems like some CAI work there, be interesting to see how that works out.

Multiple mini rebel armies should no longer spawn in a region.
This has been annoying the heck out of me!

Ever Present Winter still needs fixing, insta-ship armies should be erased as it adds stupid situations with armies jumping on and off water and siege AI still needs to know to retreat once all siege engines gone- I don`t expect it, but I hope, as usual.

August Strindberg: "There's a view, current at the moment even among quite sensible people, that women, that secondary form of humanity (second to men, the lords and shapers of human civilisation) should in some way become equal with men, or could so be; this is leading to a struggle which is both bizarre and doomed. It's bizarre because a secondary form, by the laws of science, is always going to be a secondary form. Imagine two people, A (a man) and B (a woman). They start to run a race from the same point, C. A (the man) has a speed of, let's say, 100; B (the woman) has a speed of 60. Now, the question is 'Can B ever overtake A?" and the answer is 'Never!'. Whatever training, encouragement or self-denial is applied, the proposition is as impossible as that two parallel lines should ever meet."

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

Using it to withhold an enemy charge just seems foolish to me. This was just going by the posture of the soldiers; they just did not look well braced.

Decent patch that promises to take care of some issues but I'm disappointed to see that they still haven't taken a look at the issue with minor factions fielding multiple stacks and no fixes for the Mongoloid appearance of a few Sarmatian units. The former issue in particular is gamebreaking.

They should reduce razing after 445 as well. No point to it, I'm afraid, and settling is in other faction's best interest. FMI what is tagmata?

Well, well. Even though their DLC-spamming policy sucks (I know it's defined by SEGA, but still...), CA still manage to impress with the patches. All of the changes sound great. I'm glad I don't have time right now to play the game. I will wait for the patch before starting a new campaign.

The whole "upgrading" system need to go, Like here.

Half of the patch notes are minute-modding done on 1 unit or category of unit: looks big when they put 1 comment line for each modification but except that... a bit disappointed at the work done on what is patch #2. They are already slowing down the bug fixing, so quick after release?

Some good fixes and changes, but we still need a lot more. The bug reports are increasing every day on the official forum.
