    Default Crash in random battles

    Hello!

I have not had any of the problems I see with crashes at the start of the game or with the One Ring. I have played Isengard till the end and now Rohan till I had 24 cities, and suddenly in one battle with no specially high number of units, it crashes everytime.

This happened in the Black Gate (Whatever the name is in English "Toweres of the Teeth"?). I wonder if it could be because (I kind of remember) more effects, like lightning bolts or something. About turn 90 or 95 more or less.

I passed this step in automatic and now am with 27 cities, didn't happen again.

Could it be a Graphics card issue? Because it needed a cleaning, my laptop used to overheat a lot, now I had it cleaned with just air spray and am waiting to do soon a complete cleaning, including maintenance of chip and graphics card.

What makes me think it's not the card is the fact that the computer didn't overheat (or at least way less than it used to) when this happens.

I am playing in a Dell Studio laptop, dual core with a nvidia card, and using Windows 7.

    Any clue?

Probably an overheating issue, the usual thing happening on laptops while playing M2TW/TATW. Do you have a laptop cooling pad? Invest in one good one, with at least two 10-12 cm fans, or one big one 16-20 cm. Watch for how much air flow they give.

Cleaning your laptop also helps, but it won't stop crashes caused by overheating. Had the similar issue with another game, til I got a cooling pad, which helped a lot. 5-8 °C lower temperatures.

Thanks, I have been told that the cooling pads don't work and I tend to agree, they would need to suck the air from the computer out of it. Just moving the air under it should help but not to a relevant level.

However, I think if it is an overheating issue, the maintenance I am going to have inside the computer, including re installing chip and graphics card, whose isolation (glue/paste..., not going to look up the term) is usually damaged if the computer overheats.

Glad to know that in a week or two (when I take it for it) it will hopefully work all right.

Have you even tried the cooling pad yourself ? It all comes down to what kind of a laptop you have, and how is the cooling managed and set up.

My temps were around 70-73 during the summer, when I started using Cooler Master Notepal 1 ( which was the best to find in my town at that moment) the change in temps was more than enough, around 5-8 °C lower, and now they are 62-64 while gaming.

I also do the cleaning and maintenance on my own. And, I did a few custom things on my laptop as well, I had lift it from the ground a bit( four beer caps or Coca Cola+double sided tape should do it ) and, I had made a lot of tiny holes on the under side of my laptop with my power drill to allow more air in.

But then again, some laptops will overheat no matter what you do.

    Wow.

No, I havent but a friend of mine did and not too much change, which goes with my rationale, but you are right that every case can be different.

I have something like this upside down and helps a lot (or the game simply wouldn't endure 10 mins running) ...

I saw somebody who did what you did about drilling holes in the laptop and I was , but my skill is not so high. Or my endurance. Or dedication. Or whatever.

I will have the cleaning about March 29, I am afraid the Graphics card may die before it, I hope not.

If it survives but I still have problems I may try the cooling pad. I was reluctant to spend (30?) euros in something I thought wouldn't work, I may be spending more this way but I feel more confident but if bad comes to worse...
