Default 1280x720 - Driving me crazy!!!

My computer is hooked up to a epson tw600 projector that has a native resolution of 1280x720 (which is what windows runs at along with most other games I play). When playing Rome: TW this resolution is an option under the graphics menu and it works perfectly.

In Medieval2 though, the closest option they give is 1280x768. However when I try and use this resolution the game just seems to ignore the setting (even though its definitely set) and just displays in 1024x768 (confirmed by the projector input info screen) which doesn't make use of the lovely widescreen. The only resolution I can get it to display widescreen properly in is 1360x768. That shows in widescreen perfectly and my projector scales the image to fit on the screen (yay!).

The only problem with that is that the graphics dont look anywhere near as good/sharp as they should because the projector is scaling the image down, and the game also runs a fair bit slower then it would otherwise because its displaying a higher resolution then needed (just to have the damn thing scaled back down again by the projector).

The widescreen tickbox doesnt seem to make any difference to anything as far as I can tell. I have tried manually setting 1280x720 in the preferences file (and even marking it as read only to make sure it stays like it), but the game still opens up and runs in 1024x768 still.

Computer is running a overclocked Athlon 3000+ with a Gainward 512mb 7800GS+ golden sample with the latest nvidia drivers so that shouldnt be an issue. Rome TW also works perfectly on it.

Does anyone have any ideas why this game seems to hate 1280 by xxx resolutions? Has anyone been successfuly in getting it working?

I'm also having problems getting it to run at 1280x720 res, I've tried the .ini thing but no luck I'm afraid. Any help would be greatly appreciated as the widescreen box seems to do nothing and at the moment my image is being stretched out

try powerstrip or rivatuner to force the resolution of your gfx driver iver done it b4 and got my crappy moniter at the 1600x1280 res even though it was too small on screen it still went to that resolution
seeing how youve a miles better moniter/projector then me you should be able to get the full screen i couldnt try it and see if it works
