    Default Some General Play Questions?

Got a few questions..... just general stuff I haven't figured out.

First off............ How can I get my Generals Married?

#2........ Is it possible to "transfer" a governor? I used the "remove from Office" button and I think I removed him all together. I just wanted to place him in another province. And I don't see him anymore.

#3....... and this is one I couldn't figure out in Rome 2 either, how can I merge units? Not armies, individual units. In games past, it was highlight units and hit "Ctrl M". That doesn't seem to work anymore.

#4...... Do Admirals have any effect on a province? As far as their traits and characters goes? In my limited experience, it doesn't seem they do but I admit I could be just missing something.

You lose the governor for that turn, you see him in the line with the walking legs symbol. He is available for reassignment next turm.

Ctrl M still works but make sure they are the same unit, because some are similar but may be levies or mercenaries
Proculus: Divine Caesar, PLEASE! What have I done? Why am I here?
    Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!

    1. Select the general in the family page, and look in his various political actions in the lower-right corner, for "Seek Wife". It costs 20 Influence, if I remember correctly. Note you can only do this with your own family's characters, not with the Other Nobles. If you have an unmarried adult woman in your family, however, you can use her "Arrange Marriage" action to marry an Other Noble character and pull him into your family. Note that some of those Other Nobles may already be married; their wives and minor-age children simply don't show up on the screen.

    2. Nope, you can only move governors the way you've already described. I guess he has to travel back to the capital to receive his new appointment, so it won't be until the following turn that you can put him into the new governorship (or command an army, for that matter).

    3. Ctrl-M works for me in R2...although it wasn't documented anywhere that I recall. I picked up that tip from a forum thread like this. In Attila, Ctrl-M continues to work the same way, but they've also added a mousebutton for it. Select two identical units, mouseover for the small menu which gives you "Disband", "Upgrade", etc. The bottom-most button is "Merge".

    4. Good question. Fleets do contribute to a province's Military Presence public-order buff. So it would make sense that an Admiral character's "local province" traits would come into play as well, as long as the fleet is berthed in the port itself, not just off the coast. I guess I've never thought to look.

I've had trouble removing governors without taking the "out of favor" trait penalty. It even happened when I got a notice that a characters term of office was up as governor. It showed 8/8 under term of service. I removed him from office to convert to general. Next turn he is available for general with the new "out of favor" trait because I gave his governorship to another character?

@Ozymandias Maximus, as far as I've seen, governor & general positions are completely separate from political offices. The "8/8" should've pertained to a political office (Companion, Elder, etc). Governerships don't have an limited term...a guy can remain a governor as long as he lives (as long as a settlement isn't lost in that province). I suspect the "Out of Favor" trait was coincidental, rather than directly related to his job status. Or perhaps because you might have used the "Diminish Popularity" action against him? I don't remember seeing a character get "Out of Favor" just because I removed him from a governorship. I've seen that trait pop up either a) randomly, or b) because I used "Diminish Popularity".

At least that's how's it has apparently worked so far in the Barb/Migrator/Norse factions I've played. Maybe it's a bit different in WRE/ERE.

I've never used the diminished popularity action. The instance I'm talking about was playing as the Danes. I was trying to get my young faction heir some experience through governorship. I removed him from governor and replaced him with his brother. I got the "out of favor" trait the next turn and it said something about offices being appointed to his rivals.

Ah, ok. Then I guess the trait is variable depending on who exactly replaces the character in office. Interesting. I haven't run across that particular situation before (usually, once I place a governor, the guy stays there forever).

So, if you've placed your heir in command of an army or another governorship by now, has the "Out of Favor" gone away?

No, and in the loyalty stats, I'm getting a -1 for appointing a subordinate to his former office.
