Stupid move. Gives the argument that the west conducts a religious war. Reminds me of the crusades speech of George Bush

A war against ISIS would definitely fulfill the criteria of a Just War.

This is virtually nothing like the "Crusade" mentioned by Bush when he invaded Iraq in 2003. The Vatican is basically saying that if a peaceful political solution and settlement cannot be made with ISIS, because they are irrational genocidal demagogues, then there is no other option but a military one to push them back and ensure the safety of ethnic minorities in the region that are being wiped out. That includes the Yazidis, the Kurds, the Assyrians, and Shia Arabs, plus any Sunni Arab that doesn't follow the hardline interpretation of Islam that ISIS touts. Pope Francis does outreach to imams and leaders of the Muslim world all the time. This stance against ISIS is hardly a provocation against the Islamic world, unless of course you are inferring that ISIS represents the Islamic world.
It's not like Pope Francis called for Jerusalem to be retaken, although admittedly it is in the hands of Israel.
The comments about how posterity will judge the Catholic Church for not taking a stand is almost certainly an argument born from the criticism the Catholic Church received for being largely passive against the violent expansion of Nazi Germany in the late 1930s and 40s, plus their own genocidal campaigns.

In times when all the world hears, these are irresponsible comments. I am quite sure that muslim fanatics will play with these comments to convince their brethren that the west conducts a religious war. Bty in Iraq and Syria there is a war. Christians in these areas cannot pretend that these wars do not affect them. They choose sides, they kill and get killed. The unfortunate result of civil wars
That's why any Christian expeditionary force will need local auxiliaries.

But so is ISIS so what's to loose? In times when all the world hears, these are irresponsible comments. I am quite sure that muslim fanatics will play with these comments to convince their brethren that the west conducts a religious war

Again maybe they should study history last time I checked Byzantine and Persia did not vote to become Islamic - I tired of the Crusade BS. I am on board if it gets ISIS ass hats killed or put in prison. Call the whambulance you states turned out to suck and you got your ass handed to by Europe deal.

The OP provides an insufficient basis for a discussion and even if it did not the topic can be discussed in this thread. Thread closed.
