Cannot install mods.... bc no kingdoms exe
Have you tried making a copy of medieval2.exe and renaming it kingdoms.exe?
Is there anyplace to get download version of the game that doesn't require Steam? Amazon requires Steam so it likely has the same problem. I need a working version of Kingdoms myself.
Actually, it works I have steam and this gives me no problems (windows 7) note make a copy of medieval2.exe, rename the copy Kingdoms.exe, so you have both medieval2 and Kingdoms.exe in your medieval ii total war folder. Now for mods that are looking for launcher.exe, that's one I have not personally tried. However, you can bypass that by making a shortcut for medieval2.exe (right click, "create shortcut") then right click the new shortcut (dose not matter what it's called) select "Properties" and in the "Target" square addso then the entire "Target" should look something very similar toCode:--features.mod=mods/modyouwanttoplaythis works for mods that were previously compatible with the former steam Launcher only option.Code:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\medieval ii total war\medieval2.exe" --features.mod=mods/modyouwanttoplay
For example if you want to play the "vanilla" kingdoms campaign "british isles" you would make a shortcut (of medieval2.exe) with a "Target" linethis works the same way for any mod you used to run from the Launcher, and probably any other mod-foldered mod (which should be mostly all of them) just change the "british_isles" to whatever the mod folder is called (ie the mod "Regions and Provinces for Kingdoms" the mod folder is called "Regionmod_Kings" so you would make a shortcut for medieval2.exe with the "Target" line readingCode:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\medieval ii total war\medieval2.exe" --features.mod=mods/british_islesThere is an exception if the mod you want to play relies on it's own configuration file, this I have had some trouble with, with my previous example if I try to make it run using the Regions and Provinces Configuration.cfg the game will not launch, through modding I have found it is certain lines in the Configuration.cfg that cause this problem, trying to use the executable.bat, which would give the error Kingdoms.exe not found! after making a copy of medieval2.exe and re-naming it Kingdoms.exe it would just instant CTD with unspecified error, but the mod works just fine with the shortcut method noted above.Code:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\medieval ii total war\medieval2.exe" --features.mod=mods/Regionmod_Kings

I've done it myself. Copy medieval2, and rename it. Seems crazy even, but it works.
Kingdoms is the expansion of M2TW, after the Steam update it is considered a DLC and therefore there is no seperate Kingdoms.exe anymore. Most mods used Kingdoms.exe to run, which is now integrated in M2TW's own exe I suppose. Since most mods still have the path set to Kingdoms.exe you get an error that can be solved by simply copying and renaming the medieval2.exe to Kingdoms.exe.
What error are you getting? Because I can confirm it works, so your error is something else.
seems I have a similiar maybe even the same Problem, renaming the Medieval2.exe to kingdoms and using that one still only opened me the normal medieval2 not kingdoms.
How are you launching the mod? Just running the re-named .exe will be the same as just running the medieval2.exe you need to tell the game which mod you are running. Most mods come with a .bat while some use an actual .exe (generally used for the AI switch and selecting options that are not part of the normal M2 options.) After copying and renaming the .exe run the mod from it's own .bat or .exe
An alternative would be to use the method I stated earlier using a shortcut to the .exe
This error has been fixed months ago by either a simple edit of the mod's BAT file (replacing kingdoms.exe with medieval2.exe) or using this tool.
The copy&rename method of Steam's medieval2.exe to kingdoms.exe works as well, not sure if it will mess with Steam's validation.
