    Default A return to MTW2 a few questions regarding SS MOd

    Hello,

    After many many years away from MTW2 having being playing those that followed, i've decided to return to what was probably my favourite TW game. Indeed, i had discarded the game, thus i've just purchased the Gold box set of MTW2 + Kingdoms, which will arrive next week, thus im looking to crack off with the latest and greatest mod for the game from the off and SS looks to be it.

    However given the time lapse i have a few questions regarding this mod.

    1. From ETW onwards i've been using the 40 unit mod to allow 40 units per army..does this exist for MTW2?

    2. WHat is the standard Infantry unit size on the largest setting for SS and is there an easy way to mod it to approx 400 if not already? (a bit like the pref.file unit x multiplier in later games).

    3. So am i to understand I install MTW2 then Kingdoms, then SS 6.3, then SS 6.4 and at last the 2 patches?, do i then run from the original launcher or is there anything else i should know?

    4. How many turns per year is SS mod using?

    5. Does SS use any graphics updates for unit models or do i need to find a sub mod for that?


    Think that just about covers my thoughts at present...any help with the above questions is much appreciated, indeed im really looking forward to replaying this again, i've not been so excited about a TW game since ETW.

    1. No, 20 units is max for every army, you can however control reinforcement armies.

    2. Hard to tell, not all inf has the same size in SS, spearmen usually have 150 200 men, swordsmen 150 120, cav 60 90, pikemen 200 250, max size is 250 (253 if you count the officers).

    3. Install med 2, kingdoms, 6,3 than 6,4 and you'r done! (kingdoms comes with all the patches)

    4. One turn per year.

    5. Just get 6.4 and go in custom battle and take a look at the units, if you don't like them yes there are many submods for that, i very highly recommend the "stainless Steel Historical Improvement Project" it adds also new features.

    Thanks very much for the answers...one more question, you mention Kingdoms comes with all the patches....are you referring to the patch 1.5 i keep reading about?

    Yes, instal med2, kingdoms, ss 6.3 than 6.4 and that's it, dont worry at all about patches.

    Thanks again, looking forward to having this up and running by Friday next week.....bit of a shame about the small unit sizes though after being used to 250 infantry / 120 cav units in recent games..with 40 units in each army to boot.
    I read that 250 men units is max and hardcoded for MTW2..surprised that SS mod doesn't use the full quoter given how modern hardware should walk through this game at Max.

    You'r welcome! you can change unit sizes in export_descr_units and set all inf to 250 and cav to 120 or whatever you please, might take some time but totally worth imo, however first i suggest you to try a custom battle and see if you can actually play with that many units, many ppl have problems because the game is old and is not optimized for new and more powerfull systems, like i've heard ppl talk how the game uses only 1 core for example, so yeah try see how many units your computer can handle first, also disabling some graphic settings like v-sync or antialising can greatly increase performance and still look pretty great!

    Thanks, its a good idea.....been looking at SSHIP sub-mod, looks very interesting as does Titanium...hard to work out the main differences between the two at present, but the map in SSHIP looks great. Think i'll fire up SS 6.4 and have a game or to when it arrives next week, see how it goes and then maybe install one of the said Sub mods...then deal with increasing the units as suggested if all works ok. My system is in need of an upgrade soon, but current i5-760 @ 4.31 and well OC'd 7870 all @ 1920x1200 should be enough for the job....i hope.

    Yea i was very impressed with SSHIP map too, actually everything is awsome in that submod, the only downside for me is the unit costs, althrough cities have huge amounts of population and pretty big income (Constantinople has like 150.000 ppl and makes about 10-12k florins a turn) still, 5-6000 florins to recruit some turkopoles seems a bit over the top imo, oh well.
