    Icon5 Review?

Is atillia actually a good game or a big let down just like Rome 2?

I am a big lover of Rome 1 and MTW2.

The general verdict seems to be "Better, but still not that good".

    1. The Family tree side of the game is excellent and quite complex.

    2. The battle AI is actually quite good.

    3. Sieges are better. The BAI will try several routes to town and even defend routes from reinforcements you have coming while trying to take the centre. I was impressed by that.

    But...

    1. Campaign Ai seems to gang up on the Player and doesn`t seem to really have its own faction goals. Factions raze too often.

    2. Ships battlesaren`t that great. `Fire` and floaty sails don`t make ship battles great, although I have not done many ship battles.

    3. Siege AI, while almost there, still refuses to end if all siege engines are down.

    4. Individual troop mechanics, ie Warscape. Soldiers still slip and slide away and don`t have the feeling of mass and space that MTW2 troops have.

It`s better than R2 (anything is).

Definitely better in pretty much every aspect, but it depends very much on your focus. Battles still don't have the quality of the old games. And there are some things that need tweaks/mods: like fertility (the whole map will become barren with time), imperium (as soon as you own a few settlements you are universally hated), razing/empire building (most factions just raze everything so Europe will become a nuclear wasteland - a few of them like to build up though), general AI behaviour (AI afraid of attacking settlements - attacking player/enemy armies on the other side of the map while ignoring nearer targets) and so on.

Also, they have obviously left some factions barebones for the inevitable dlc influx.
