    Default [Idea] Hero units like in Shogun 2

    I remember all the cool hero units for Shogun 2 and was thinking it would be cool to get some hero units for Attila, eg. Roman sword hero / Gothic sword hero, Spear heroes, bow heroes, etc. etc.

    It was awesome knowing you had some special ops forces on the field but can understand if people don't like overpowered units on the field.

    I've been working on exactly this, but just for the saxons so far, because just like you I loved having elite troops in shogun 2.

    I'm slightly insane and obsessive and I've been fine tuning this unit for like a week straight but I'm pretty pleased with them now, these are my saxon champions

    they're 30 men strong and have absurd stats (like 110 attack 90 defense 300 morale) but actually seem fairly balanced. being only 30 men strong they can't withstand a charge very well but in a simple melee can stand up against one unit of almost anything, but anything more than that and they get overwhelmed and die. they also get completely wrecked by precursor javs (because any jav volley will take like 10-15 men leaving them pretty weakened) so you need to use them very wisely.

    however put them in the right spot and they can cause mass routs because of the fear they instill in the enemy, and they're great general assassins.

    They use assets from multiple mods on this forum though, mainly weeags shields and hadriens awesome saxon overhaul, so i wouldn't feel comfortable releasing them without permission (which i might ask for down the road.)

    Awesome, great to hear you're working on it, and it sounds very well balanced from what you've described! If you're using other people's stuff, I'm sure they'll be happy for you to use it as long as you ask nicely and credit the creators when you release it

    Glad to hear someone else enjoys the heroes! It's hard to get right though like you say, I remember one guy introduced some hero units in Shogun 2 that were so overpowered it ruined the campaign as one hero unit in the AI's army would just destroy thousands of men, so it's important that they can be killed when surrounded / by javelins etc like you mentioned. Anyway, no rush, godspeed, and thank you! Would be cool to have one hero unit per faction too but understand the workload!

    Is there any way to tie a hero unit like the one you've made to champions on the campaign map?

    I like the idea and hope some people will make a variety of units.

    To some extent I made special units a bit similar to this in TW:R2 and now also in TW:A myself (using variantmodels from DeI and R2). They have strenghts and weaknesses albeit not such uber stats as mentioned in posts above. All have campaign cap 1. F.E. I had one called "Death Corps", totally naked and with two-handed falx with high attack and no armour and no defense. The unit was annihilated in a lot of battles unfortunately but sometimes had their day. Here you can see some at work:
