Default (Question) Is there a way to increase infant mortality rate?

Odd question I know but I have a set of babies I reeeeally don't want cluttering my family tree(It's a long story about a man who sprouted children even after castration and I was left with many, many of his unnatural offspring), so I'm wondering if I could temporarily edit the infant mortality rate to 100, have em all killed then go back to default values and forget all about them and enjoy my new, less cluttered family tree.

    Is this possible?

Probably, but only through tweaking events.
However, someone made a mod for marriages which cut down illegitimate children to like 2-5%.

That sounds more like your mark. Won't help your current game but should clean up future games. Legit kids are a much smaller set usually.

I believe in the campaign_variables table their is an infant mortality that you can set or something similar. It will start with family I'm not at my computer right now so I can't check but I'm 85% sure it's their.

I've never edited Total War before so if you could be just a little more clear on how this is accomplished I would appreciate it. I'll gladly attempt it myself, I just need a little more direction as to where to start.

No this was actually a bug, I made someone a eunuch to stop them from having children every single turn, and then after he became a eunuch he would produce 2 children every turn but illegitimate.

You are one sadistic so-and-so. How could you be so cruel?

If there were a mod that allowed me to assassinate babies I'd take that too.
I really don't need 10 extra babies with no lineage, especially when I have 20 other men coming to an age where they'll have kids. It's just becoming a mess at this point.
The family tree could really use a scroll out option instead of simply panning.

Press hotkey "z" to slaughter child.

Hey Enad, you'll need to download PFM (LINK: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...Attila-support ). The variable you're looking to change is:

    family_infant_mortality_chance_very_young
    or

    family_infant_mortality_chance_young

You can find these variables in the data.pack under db -> campaign_variables_tables -> campaign_variables

Just scroll down through the table until you find the family_ section and then scan for infant mortality. Should be calculating it as a percentage (EX: .5 = 50%) if I'm not mistaken. Don't think changes will affect an active game though.

Ah, I was hoping to just make them die off in one turn and set it back to normal the next.

Thanks for the help though. Guess I'm stuck with them..

    I wish that was true!

A mod that actually REDUCED fertility rates would be great. Two generations in and my family tree becomes a mess of sons, bastards, daughters I can't marry off and kids that aren't of age yet. It makes power balancing trivial too since you can fill every position with someone from your extended family.

Well there is a value for max # of children. Might help to lower that value?

    family_maximum_number_of_children

Same place as the previous values I mentioned.

Thanks I'll try that for my next playthrough, I really don't need more than 4 children per person.

Went ahead and made a .pack in case anyone else wants it. Lowered max # of children to 4 and reduced the chance of birth by 5% as well. Let me know if you need some alternatives.

Thanks so much man! That's great.

No problem guys, didn't notice any issues when testing it and seems to have worked as expected. Let me know if it needs to be higher/lower and I'll adjust.

And as you mentioned before this won't work in a current play through? A new campaign is required for this to have the intended effects, no?

Not entirely sure to be honest. I tested it on a new campaign to judge if it was too slow/broken but it might work on a save game. To address your original issue I made another .pack file with 100% infant mortality, but haven't had a chance to test yet. Give it a try and see if it salvages your current save? I'd play one turn, see if a bunch of babies die, and if so save and then restart without the mod enabled. Keep in mind these two mods are not compatible, so you'll have to disable one if you're using the other.

Again, no guarantees but it might fix the original issue you mentioned with all the kids. I just turned the mortality up to 100%, so it should wipe out the younger generations.
