Does Roma Surrectum have better looking terrain and vegetation textures than Medieval 2?
I've been wondering, does Roma Surrectum have better looking terrain and vegetation textures than Medieval 2? Because if so, why then is their no mod porting them to Medieval 2?

I honestly don't know how to answer that. The trees, I'm sure, are superior...but it is more difficult to deal with vegetation in MTW2, so not people have tackled it.
The way MTW2 generates the terrain and vegetation is VERY well done...cudos to whomever at CA did it. It is a 'completion' of what was started in RTW, and I would've thought that the MTW2 engine would've been continued and refined in the later TW series, since it is superior IMHO.

So is it just more difficult to edit the trees and vegetation in Medieval 2? Or does Rome use a format for them that makes porting them to Medieval 2 nearly impossible?

It is more difficult to add them to MTW2 than it is to RTW. It 'can' be done, it's just a lot harder. I imagine most people have felt that the terrain and stuff in MTW2 are pretty good anyway....not like RTW's was...which was awful.

My personal opinion; It's in the eye of the beholder. I think M2 is "superior", but generally speaking doesn't look as good as RS2's vegetation, if that makes sense. There is a difference between raw "better" graphics and aesthetics. Stuff like off colors in M2TW that don't mesh right, those stupid flowers in the grass drive me nuts too. Whereas the grass in RS2 is. just. plain. awesome.
RS2 feels more raw and real. That being said, I do think there is more potential in M2, but it's a lot of work and hasn't quite been done right yet...not that it matters that much. There are good mods on both engines, nice veg is just icing.

I agree that M2 is the best of the TW engines, but it suffers from the 'blurs' in my opinion. Colors and objects aren't sharp and crisp. Part of that is just how the settings are in certain files that control daylight, while another is that M2 ground textures are all very...how shall I say...bland? The reason for that I understand; it takes time and manpower to make sharp, clear, detailed textures 'tile' nicely without looking 'checker-board'. So using more mundane, vague ones is easier. But the overall look ends up looking 'blended'.
BTW, one of the easiest things to change in M2 is the grass. In fact, the way RS2 grass works was taken from M2. Both engines could do it.
