    I really love this mod, but it frequently crashes at the end of a turn or at the beginning of a battle saying that medieval 2 has experienced an unspecified error and will now exit. I can put up with this because I have gotten into the habit of always saving, but recently it happened in the middle of a turn and a couple of times in the middle of ( generally larger) battles which is extremely frustrating.

    When it crashes during a battle it says something like medieval 2 has experienced a fatal error, and advises that I lower my graphics settings, but I specifically set them to the auto detector so I assume the quality of the graphics is not the issue, but I could be completely wrong.

    Does anyone know how to fix this (these) problem(s)?

    What does your error log say? It's in [Your M2TW folder]\logs

    Os is ok, about steam most bugs are caused because of it. Do you had a clear install?

    I have the exact same CTD problems. I am playing the game thru steam on windows 8. Also there seems to be nothing in the logs.


    Can you help me please by explaining how i can do what you did. I have the same CTD problem. every few turns or sometimes before a battle I get a CTD. I installed the game by putting the EB II mod as a replacement for the crusades in folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods. And launching by selecting that campaign in the steam start up. This is how i play IB2 conquestus britanniae without a single CTD. I also have the same problem with DLV BB. Please help these two mods are so much superior to Rome II.

    I've been having similar problems lately (HP Pavilion Notebook 15, Windows 8.1 operating system). Crashes used to be a once-in-a-while occurrence during battles, but lately it seems like EVERY siege is a guaranteed crash. WTF? As Koinon Hellenon, I've been besieging a lot of Celtic "barbarian" "towns" lately and it seems like this particular level of settlement is the worst when it comes to crashing. Sometimes when this happens putting the computer into "sleep" mode manually and then booting it back up solves the problem halfway through a battle. Now that little trick never seems to work. As far as I know large open battles on the field don't have this problem, only sieges.

    I've kicked down the graphics a bit, including having absolutely no grass detail and lowest shadow quality, but I still have "highest" for unit detail. Is it a graphics error, perhaps? Sometimes with stormy weather and lightning the game crashes, but since I've kicked the graphics down a bit that doesn't seem to be the problem at all. It could be a completely sunny day with two armies that aren't really that big and it will still crash during a siege. What gives?

    Mtw2 plays best on xp, found that out last week. Its a performance related crash due to the way newer operating systems handle resources as tatw, broken crescent,stainless steel the list goes on suffer this unspecified fate.

    Look up dual boot is installation. Basically if you want it will let you run windows 7 with windows xp. And also enjoy your classic games.

    Just remember older operating system is first, newer is after when you install. If its the other way around partition the drive, remember your partition drive then once you get to the easybcd step make very sure you install the bootmgr to the right partition.

    Oh if you have more than one drive be absolutely sure to get partition wizard home/free then set only your operating system drive to active.

    Then enjoy no random resource related ctds.

    Alternately manually lower performance hungry graphics options like shadows. And I'm serious even if you think your machines are beast you still need to lower them.
