Default Barbarian factions Vs. Roman Unit textures

I started my first Roman campaign today and I noticed that Roman unit models look horrible compared to barbarian models.

I'm not talking about stylistically, I mean most of their armor and shields are clipping on their heads, pants are clipping with chain mail armor, the helmets look plastic and their faces look less detailed.

On the other hand barbarian units look incredibly detailed to me.

I run the game on max settings and so far I was amazed that Attila units look so much better than Rome 2's on my computer with less lag, but Roman units look like crap...

    Any idea why?

Do I need to have different settings to make Roman units look better?

Chainmail looks fine to me. The late Roman equipment was notably lackluster compared to the days of the lorica segmata. I can't speak for the clipping issues: the only clipping I've seen was for some spies and the Alemanni faction leader in his pose. I'll be getting down to the real nitty gritty when blood and gore is released and I start batching ss on max settings. The Roman roster looks pretty impressive with GEM. There are a few videos where it just looks terrific.
