    Default Corruption (and other)

My corruption stats hinder considerably my ability to develope cities or even create uits. It's a serious amount, sometimes maybe 10, 15% of my incomer or more.

I know the TW series considers that corruption takes place especially in places far from the Capital, but in some cases I made concentric expansion, so no settlement was really far.

How does it work in the game?

Corruption increase with distance from the capital, correct; that is seemingly hard coded in the M2 engine.
That mean that for Gondor for example it's a good idea to move the capital to Tarnost or alike, and for HE it's naturally essential to move the capital to the Grey Havens; such strategic moves may differ when submods are used, naturally.

Otherwise, IIRC, it only increase due to bad traits or ancs from a governor.
Governors with good traits & ancs and a high Obedience on the opposit decrease corruption.

    What Ngugi said.

Corruption is a hardcoded calculation based entirely on straight-line distance from the capital. But it can be modded, if desired, to change the global factor.

Corruption is a percentage of the settlement's income (shown on the settlement details scroll), so the more income a settlement makes, the more it - and therefore the faction - will lose to corruption. So the best course of action is to place the capital in the 'center' of your money-making regions, which is not necessarily the same as the center of your realm. Figuring out where that 'center' is is the tricky part. The only way to be sure is to switch your capital to each settlement in turn and then look at your Finances scroll to see which one gives the highest "Projected Profits" (or whatever it's called). But that technique is ruled out in TATW because it costs 5000 to move the capital each time, although you could always use a console cheat - add_money - to give yourself your money back if you really wanted to try it without costing you anything.

There is no "Corruption" effect, per se, for traits/ancillaries but Law decreases Corruption (and increases Public Order, something else that decreases with capital distance).

I have written a submod to automate that technique: Best Capital Finder

As stated above, moving the capital to the center of the Empire decreases corruption, as does law bonuses. To increase law, build the town hall buildings and make generals with good traits governors of settlements. The best traits for this are Good Administrator, Upright, Harsh Justice or Just (you can't have both, the former is better) and Authoritarian. Prim is also a good trait for this. A general with all of these traits will completely wipe out corruption in even the most distant cities and can save over a thousand per turn in a big city, easily exceeding their upkeep and personal wages. Such men are extremely rare though, and a general with even just a few of those good traits is precious.
