Unified Japan or a clan ?

Should Japan be an unified contry under the rule of the Ashikaga shogunate or should we put instead a clan (Oda, Toyotomi or Tokugawa).

You all probably played Shogun 1 or 2 and know what I am talking about.
Japan was ruled in theory by the Ashikaga shogunate, but in reallity Japan was in a civil war state, families were fighting to take the power.

Both options are in my opinion viable.

About the clans :
- Oda made a important revolution in Japanese military tactics. He adopted matchlocks traded by the Portuguese and with that defeated the most powerfull cavalry in Japan lead by Takeda. Oda Nobunaga almost unified Japanm, but was murdered.
- Then it was finally Hideyoshi from Toyotomi that unified Japan. After the unification, he had to find a new job for all the thousands soldiers Sengoku produced and invaded Korea. The Toyotomi rule didn't last long, Hideyoshi died and was the first and last Toyotomi shogun. Japan was again in civial war state.
- Last but not least, Tokugawa. Ieyasu unified Japan and his family ruled Japan until the Meiji era. Unlike Hideyoshi he isolated Japan from the foreigners.

Perhaps we could have a Shogunate of Japan,and simulate clan fighting with aggresive rebels?

So, in medieval Japan was clan wars like mafia in USA in 20th century?

Rebel spawn very easy to do anyway.

Otherwise I have an idea. We could have Japan unified controling all the provinces, but place forts with japanese rebels.

Then the rebels will start to roam in Japan from the beggining and the player will be force to first erase them before trying conquering something outside.
